Different audio cable connections

I want to connect a pair of speakers to a TV. The TV has only one audio out socket and this is a square section digital audio one. The speaker cable has the traditional banana shape male connectors.
Hoping to find a suitable linking cable - is there such a thing? If nor is there another way?
I already have the speakers and prefer not to have to buy a sound bar.

Digital audio out going to a passive speaker is going to need some type of amplifier in between, no simple cable is going to be able to achieve this.1

What speakers?
Sounds like you have a TOSLink/Optical out and given you mention banana plugs sounds like terminated speaker cable so analogue passive speakers.
If thats right you need a DAC to convert the digital signal to an analogue one and then an Amplifier to get the signal up to listening levels. This could be two devices or a combined amp with optical connection.
You can pick up some unbranded thing on Amazon for £69, cheapest RicherSounds sells is £250. Or you could look at secondhand.
There may be other options available depending on the kit1 -
I think the square one you are referring to is an optical-out cable. This needs to plug into a stereo amplifier into which you can of course plug your speakers.1

Thanks everyone. Looks like a soundbar is the better option0

Doesn't the TV have a headphone socket? You just connect your powered speakers (like the ones for a PC) to the headphone socket, wind up the volume on the speakers, and then the TV volume control will control the output.Anything plugged into the TOSlink is going to need it's own volume control.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Also a digital out needs more than a volume control.1 -
The manual shows a headphone socket but there is not one. There is another which is not in the manual.0

Looks like either you have the wrong manual or you have a manual that covers a range of models and arent spotting which elements apply to your model -v- others your manual covers.
As previously said, the model number would be helpful1 -
Definitely the correct manual but it hasn't been updated to match the current version of the TV0
