I'll hopefully be heading to Sainsbury's for carrots, parsnips and swede to make up some stew packs for the freezer...2

I think sprouts have a bad press but I don't know anyone who really likes them.olgadapolga said:

Earlier this week we had them in a nice way with butter and dried cranberries, I'm not a big sprout fan but I'd have this again.Murphybear said:

Trim off any dry bits.
Slice the sprouts (you'll probably get 4 slices to a sprout) top to bottom
Pan fry for 5 mins with some oil
Take them off the heat and in a bowl stir in some butter and dried cranberries.

I like sprouts. The issue with them is that they are often badly cooked (over-cooked).Murphybear said:

The pack sizes are the same as normal, just cheaper. You also have the option to buy loose items and weigh them at most supermarkets, but of course the packed ones may work out cheaper.Saver73 said:
Thanks for the suggestions! Still a space issue ... I think it irritates me because I don't buy Christmas food, I buy and eat the same food as the rest of the year, every year I hope the supermarkets will sell veggies as normal.fatbelly said:
Cut them up as as you normally serve them, parboil them and freeze in meal sized portions.Saver73 said:
Aldi is usually good for me having smaller packs of veggies like carrots. 500g of carrots is fine, 1kg is too much, they take up more space, they don't keep that well, then I end up trying to make something out of what I don't need or want, before giving up and putting in the food waste!1 -
Sprouts are a good source of Vitamin C, on par with oranges weight for weight and where a important part of the nations winter diet in the past, myself I try and have two or three with a meal once a week in the winter.Murphybear said:

The pack sizes are not the same at my local supermarkets! Normally I can buy 500g bags of carrots but when the offers start in December they are in 1kg packs.jon81uk said:

I shop in Aldi to save money and my local store doesn't sell loose items probably as it is more expensive.

Was hoping Lidl would do the shallots again in their veg offers but doesn't seem so this year. I'm already planning how I'm going to use all this wonderful veg!

This ^^^ If you can afford to, go to your local veg shop or a market stall, or buy frozen bags of veg. PleaseEmmia said:Whilst I appreciate that the savings are appreciated by many, these prices come at a cost to the farmers who actually grow the vegetables.

In context, how would you feel if you had to work for a month on 50% of your usual (terrible) pay.
