Whilst I appreciate that the savings are appreciated by many, these prices come at a cost to the farmers who actually grow the vegetables.

In context, how would you feel if you had to work for a month on 50% of your usual (terrible) pay.11 -
It's being reported that Lidl will match this on spuds, carrots, parsnips and sprouts*, from 19 Dec

Similar from Sainsburys on spuds, sprouts, carrots, parsnips, swede, white & red cabbage, from 18 Dec

Veggie war? I'd like my sprouts uncombative, please.

My children fight about the sprouts, they absolutely will not eat themCornucopia said:Veggie war? I'd like my sprouts uncombative, please.

I appreciate the savings but what about the waste? Is it ok to throw away half of what I don't need because it cost less?!
Aldi is usually good for me having smaller packs of veggies like carrots. 500g of carrots is fine, 1kg is too much, they take up more space, they don't keep that well, then I end up trying to make something out of what I don't need or want, before giving up and putting in the food waste!

Cut them up as as you normally serve them, parboil them and freeze in meal sized portions.Saver73 said:

Thanks for the suggestions! Still a space issue ... I think it irritates me because I don't buy Christmas food, I buy and eat the same food as the rest of the year, every year I hope the supermarkets will sell veggies as normal.fatbelly said:

Well, whatever I buy will not be wasted
Red cabbage cooked with Delia's recipe in the slow cooker, then some frozen
White cabbage for coleslaw
Broccoli stalks (could be soup) go to a friend's guinea pigs
Extra carrots parboiled & frozen
Spuds kept somewhere cool
But sprouts??? Poison!

I will be taking advantage of the cheap Christmas spuds and storing them in an old potato sack in an unheated garage. A couple of years ago they lasted me till the cheap Easter veg offers!2
