I dont get working tax credits only child tax credits. My income support is soley for me, £59.15 a week. My children are not included in the Income Support. When they first brought the tax credits out, anyone who had their first child after they had come out, instantly got child tax credits for their children, and Income Support for themselves. If working Working Tax credit for themselves.
Since I had my children BEFORE child tax credits came out, until I started working the other year I received Income support for myself and children and NO child tax credits. Upon starting work and giving Income Support up, I was eligible to apply for both working and child tax credits. Upon finishing work, I lost the Working Tax Credit element (ovbiously) but, I was eligible to retain the Child Tax Credits element and apply for Income Support soley for myself. Hope this helps.

thanks penny - that was really clear.

you see years ago you got income support for yourself and children and i didnt know that now they do it differently.

i often read all these different benefits and i was totally confused cos i was thinking you got income support for yourself and children and then child tax credit on top. but now i know. thanks for explaining that xx.

Glad I could help. The way they changed everything did make it awkward for everyone to understand, as its a system that's still being phased in, so not everyone is on the same system, and believe it or not, nor on the same income, as you have a slightly higher income for children via Child Tax Credits than what you receive for children via Income Support.

My Savings Accounts are for Holidays and emergencies. The Halifax Isa will be shut once I get my poultry interest on it, and transferred to my ICICI account.
