You can argue about the specifics but like anything else it just comes down to whether the cost of providing them is justified by the demand, they clearly don't think that's the case here. I'm an engineer and we often have to discontinue products that are still selling because overall demand for the parts we use drops and they either become very expensive or the manufacturers stop producing them. That's just the natural flow of things, you can't live the past and expect Barclays to keep providing the machines forever in the age of Internet banking.

I'd imagine that statements are all printed in big print centres that handle things for multiple banks and other companies. That's clearly going to be fsr more economic than maintaining ptinters in every bank.

Yes, and due to collapsing demand even the big centralised printers have been struggling e.g., Communisis. If you have a cheque book from any bank there's a good chance it was printed by this company but it also prints/printed statements and, IIRC, marketing material (don't see much of this anymore, either).

Most banks will have one large warehouse where all the letters/statements are printed saves on cost!

I know HSBC have machines in Branch where statements can be printed not sure about other banks!

But hardly anyone will miss this service at Barclays!

HSBC have the facility to print statements off in the branch, however, their setup seems a bit more easier to maintain. It's an ipad connected to a laser office printer, which just takes standard A4 paper - they have the letter-headed paper which is probably printed en-masse for the group anyway so there's less cost, it can probably just be ordered internally like any other item of banking stationery and reloaded by the staff in the branch as they would do for any other printer.

I went into branch today (was in town anyway Xmas shopping) & needed some HTB ISA statements for flat purchase they had 3 statements machines but narrowed it down to 1 working!

I could only order up to the last 19 months of statements which I did for my HTB ISA or view them!

Branch was quite for a Saturday morning

Why would you want a paper copy when you can just use the app or online banking?
Because some people still don't use the app or online banking?

Also, sometimes there is a need for a certified copy of a bank statement... the machines produce one of these FOC.
The  'statement machine'  type of  statements generally are ina different  format to originals  and aren't 'certified' copies'  in any way shape or form

Were these just for proof of funds for your lender?  Just in case you weren't already aware, when it comes to actually using the HTB ISA for the purchase, it's critical that a specifically-formatted closing statement is obtained from the ISA provider, as this is needed to support the bonus claim, as explained from 6.7 onwards (and schedule 3) at https://www.helptobuyisaadmin.org.uk/lib/sites/default/files/scheme-rules-feb-2020_0.pdf

    "Generally" perhaps.

But the Barclays one - from the type of machine I use - is a certified copy which has been accepted as such.

My solicitor needs the last 6 months HTB ISA statements so that why I ordered them from the machine in branch as don’t wanna use originals!

I know about the closing statement but they don’t need it yet!
