You're probably going to have to walk through the log in process.   Santander wants/prefers/is moving to authorising Online banking log-ins via the App.
Currently the app is only used for approving new payments and not for logging on
This is not correct. Logging on authorisation is via the App (or OTP if selected)....I've not long logged in using in the App..
You are using the app I did mention logging on using a laptop.
When I use the App I am only required to enter a series of numbers with no further information required

    .

Nope, logged in on a PC, entered 'Personal ID' and 'Security Number' Then instructed to authorise via app on phone. When using the App on phone I'm only required to use my fingerprint.
As I said the App is not only used for approving new payments, but also for logging on.

Same for me.  I only need an OTP if I'm setting up a new payee.  I use online banking and don't have the app so there is no question of authenticating on there.
Could it be that Santander think the OP's mum has the app and that on the desktop it is waiting for her to respond on the app?
