In the banking equivalent of turning a computer off and turning it back on again, can she take the phone number off then add it back in again?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Only if she can log in , which needs an OTP, so unfortunately not.

  • I wonder if it'd be worth contacting the mobile network provider to see if they've blocked shortcodes or something.

For a bank security issue, I'd suggest not bringing in third parties like the phone company unless it's clearly an issue with their service.   If it's still a problem, probably best to contact the bank.

I'm wondering if the log in sequence has changed - mine has on Santander.   Getting an OTP is now an option you have to select as an extra step and an alternative to App verification.

You're probably going to have to walk through the log in process.   Santander wants/prefers/is moving to authorising Online banking log-ins via the App.
Using the App to authenticate is their preferred method, but they have 'Send OTP' as an alternative option in small print also.

Contacted the bank ... they went through the items I'd already checked for mum then said call the Mobile network, but they have changed to OPT by email for her - there are some restrictions but she'll be able to do most of her usual things. Intention to switch it back when the phone option is working.
She hasn't yet been able to get hold of the Mobile network - not answering their phones.

Anyway I've come home now and I think I fixed everything else, thanks very much for everyone's answers on this.

Currently the app is only used for approving new payments and not for logging on

In my case most of the time no OPT required. It usually happens if the laptop system has gone through a upgrade.App used to verify new payments only at that stage you can request OTP instead
If you don't have the app you only have the OTP

This is not correct. Logging on authorisation is via the App (or OTP if selected)....I've not long logged in using in the App..

You are using the app I did mention logging on using a laptop.
When I use the App I am only required to enter a series of numbers with no further information required
