Home LPG tank price comparison

Hi all –

In August, I moved to a house with LPG fuel for heating and cooker hob.

In early October we signed up with a company to supply the LPG. It's a smaller company and was the existing supplier to the property. We were also restricted in moving to another (larger) supplier due to the position of the tank. Something that wasn't made clear to us on purchase.

In October we paid 0.5484p per litre plus VAT and ordered 600 litres.

Yesterday, 26 November, we got another delivery of 757 litres and the price has risen to 0.7098p per litre. That's approximately a 30% increase.

I am questioning this with the supplier, but it seems particularly excessive to me and while I understand that it's a less regulated market than mains gas, I have not noticed any news stories about such a crazy rise in price. I was expecting to pay a few pence more per litre than Calor or Flogas, etc, but this is ridiculous.

Can any other users provide comparative prices for orders around the same time period? Or is there website that collates bulk LPG prices?

The heating is now off!

Thanks in advice.

Hi @Kingsley_net I've put the link for the main discussion around suppliers and price comparisons for LPG. You'll be able to see what people are currently being quoted per litre and compare it to yourself.

70ppl sounds very excessive to me and for myself I'm based in the midlands and on a fixed 1 year deal at 43 pence per litre.

    Who owns the LPG tank?
You don't mention a contract, if the tank is owned by the LPG firm (your renting the tank from them) then I expect a 2 year agreement with a fixed price and so on.
If you own the tank then the price would be a variable one (month on month) but of course you would not be tied and could shop around firm to firm.

Hi everyone- I wish I had of done my homework before hastily signing with FLOGAS when I moved in May 2024. Initially the cost was 65 ppl and similar daily rate. Now it’s this….. I am flabbergasted at the price hike and it seems there is little I can do about it! Large 4 bed detached Ne Selby. I spoke to other suppliers who wouldn’t even engage with me until a month before my contract ends…. One kind man did say that his big company would offer 52ppl…..
I wrote to FLOGAS who gave me a stock answer letter back quoting it’s within its gift increase up to 49% and that gas prices have increased. My neighbour is with FloGas and they pay 53ppl. They are in the same village!!’
any advice soothing words would be great fully received.

I'm afraid that agreements are 24 month and often have a cheap (too cheap)  rate 1st year and can have a variable one for the 2nd. Watch out for having a fixed 2nd year but with "operating costs" added, or the operating costs are fixed and its the gas price that varies in that 2nd year. The firms you have spoken to are correct in that you cant start to switch until within 1 month of the end of your existing agreement.
