Flight price changed after details confirmed

I booked an internal Peruvian flight with Latam, through booking.com yesterday. The details were confirmed by email but when I checked on the Latam website, the hold baggage that I’d added (two at £19) were not there. I checked with booking.com and they’ve come back with a request for an additional £12. They also gave me 30 minutes to pay this or they refund the 2x£19 and cancel the baggage but I was in a meeting so missed this
email.

I can add the baggage to the flights on the Latam website for £25 each, which tallies with the requested £12.

I’m not actually bothered about the money as it’s nothing over the cost of a holiday, but it’s frustrating. I’ve asked booking.com for more details.

Has anyone else had similar?

This is just one of the issues you can incur by not booking direct.

All you can do it contact them again and say you were in a meeting so missed the email.

Third party sites can have many issues and you are reliant on the site you booked with to sort it out.

I agree, but the option of booking direct with the airline potentially brings language issues into the equation. I normally book direct with an English speaking firm. I did have issues in Argentina last year when the airline cancelled a flight and I had to navigate in a language I do not understand to get myself on the next flight. Had I booked with a UK operator that time I’d at least have understood what was happening.

While that's true, there is no guarantee that a third party would deal with a problem in a timely or satisfactory way.  With translation being so easy on the web, booking direct avoids a lot of potential problems.

Having moaned about booking.com, I should come back and say that they rectified the issue and by baggage is now on the booking with Latam without me having paid anything further. A small gripe is that they didn’t let me know that it had been resolved, but I can live with that.
