Issues moving photos from phone to laptop.

Options

Just moved a large number of photos from my old Moto g9 to my laptop via a usb cable.

Well, all the photos are only showing as ‘thumbnails’ when I open them on my laptop and below the photos it is showing as 100% size.

What have I done wrong.

I choose the rooms that I live in with care,
The windows are small and the walls almost bare,
There's only one bed and there's only one prayer;
I listen all night for your step on the stair.

    What size is a typical photo (in megabytes) if you right click  and select Properties within File Manager?

    On the laptop, is there an option to show image sizes such as small/medium/large/thumbnail?

    Not sure if I’m using the same route to find the info as you described but looking at thumbnails on laptop I right click and then open file explorer, then hover over photo and I’m getting sizes as small as 20KB yet older photos on laptop are showing anything from 1.5MB to 5MB.

    So is it to do with how the photos are moved from the phone to the laptop?

    If the photos were backed up to Google Drive through Photos, you can download them through the website:

    did you actually move the photos to your laptop or did you (accidentally) just create shortcuts to the photos on your laptop

    are the photos still on your phone ?

    I often have issues moving from phone to PC. I quite often email them to myself from phone, then open and save on the PC

    It's an Android phone so probably has Google Photos installed. If you have (create one if you don't) a gmail account, jusdt set Google Photos to backup to it, using WiFi only to save mobile data, and any pictures you take on the phone can be downloaded onto your PC.

    We can't really say what happened as you haven't explained how you moved the photos. It might be you copied  the thumbnails rather than the photos themselves.

    There isn't really a need to copy folders to a PC as you can access them easily through Google Photos or iCloud (or OneDrive , Amazon Photos etc if you prefer)
