I don't mind spiders either - but if you really want to get rid of all of yours, get a 'great grey hunter' (aka cat - other colours are available).

Just because you are bigger doesn't mean they do not see you as prey.

I worked on a project that involved being in underground jointing chambers in a desert area. After a couple of weeks a inflamed spot appeared between my shoulder blades. So one of the lads, a chap from Kerala, squeezed it out and in it where four or five little white spheres about half the size of a match head.
The consensus of opinion from the audience was that they where spiders eggs. The chap cleaned around the area with a raw clove of garlic and advised I do the same for a few days.
I have often wondered if this folk medicine method is the basis for those vampire and garlic stories you get in literature.

Crushed raw garlic contains allicin, which is an antiviral, antifungal, antibiotic, and antiparasitic.  Very likely the reason.

I think now is the breeding season so your spider is very probably looking for a mate.
That's one way to get rid of the wife...
The spiders that eat their partner is usually the female. So TiW probably looks like a decent size meal for the spider.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

The picture is likely the female, female spiders sit and wait for a mate. The males are likely to be the ones that run across the room looking for their mate.

I learnt that on a living with spiders course to combat my phobia

Have you tried searching the web for an answer?

A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".

    Thanks.
I'm terrified of it, but wife insists it stays - she's even given it a name. Hubby-killer or something?
So, should I give it a light misting? Serve it a fly?
She sounds like my kind of woman. We have a number of daddy long-legs spiders, Pholcus phalangioides, scattered about the house. At this time of the year they don’t get to eat too often but if spiders have gotten in so will a few things they can eat will as well, including other spiders.

If you are really lucky you might find the odd Spitting Spider, Pholcus phalangioides, but they are not that common, are small and nocturnal hunters so rarely seen.

Thanks for that @Keep_pedalling.  Your spitter is a real beauty.

My husband's biggest complaint about spiders (currently at least) is that George's web is blocking the entrance to the garage.  Since George just sits there other than occasionally having a light snack I wonder if he is a she.

And no matter what @Silvertabby might think not all cats are great hunters.  Most just like to have something fun to play with and get bored and wander off if its "toy" (aka your pet) is too far out of reach.  Or they're like our old Ariadne who would simply sit there and watch the spider/mouse/dustball skitter across the floor right in front of them.
