    Why does she want to pay? What does she think will happen if it is not paid?
    Good question, we've had similar around 10 years ago and got a lot of letters through the post threatening legal action, she found it very stressful, also the car is in her name so she will get the post
    But you don't pay a scammer.

    Is it a scam though? I parked on their land for a fee, and overstayed. I’d like to contest it due to the circumstances but I wouldn’t call it a scam personally

    MPs did.

    You've read the MPs' quotes in the NEWBIES thread? The entire industry is rotten.

    Crikey you are very naive then, we have seen their antics for years and they use every scam in the book, from lying to falsifying photo evidence, you really think that a £100 fee for being 15 mins over time isn't a scam?
    Local authorities are prohibited by government from using ANPR in car parks because it is unreliable, and not fit for purpose, but these Muppets can stick any old unregulated camera up a pole for charging people and you think it isn't a scam?
    You are just funding the owners new Mercedes and villa in the Mediterranean nothing more!

    Oh no.

    Funding the scam against the next people. Totally unnecessary; not money well spent at all. Thera's not even a deadline.

    Good grief! So would you just pay any invoice for anything sent to you in the post by a scammer just for peace of mind?

    Just scrolled back through your thread looking for an address where I could send an invoice for £100. I would of course offer a large discount - is 50% attractive enough? - for prompt payment. I could make the text 'threatening' if that helps.    ;)

    Kidding of course... but can't you see how ridiculous that is?

    Anyway, now that you have paid that one, your name will have been put on a mugs list and they will be scurrying through their records to see if there is anything else they can pin on you for some easy money.

    I'm curious, in car parks generally do you guys just never pay and always contest then? Or try to adhere to the rules, but only if things go wrong do you then not pay?

    Their website keeps saying "There was an error when making the payment. Please try again."

    Maybe it's a sign

    Oh good!  DO NOT PAY. Never pay a scam to make it go away.  It's only letters.

    What we regulars do is:

    - avoid private car parks if at all possible, always looking to park on-street in any town or city (possible even in some parts of London);

    - if we have no choice, we always read signs, pay any parking fee immediately and/or enter number-plates and take photos as proof;

    - if we get a PCN we complain to the landowner. Almost always works.  Or appeal but that's secondary and if we lose we ignore it because £100 for parking just isn't acceptable; it's an embarrassment to this Country and the entire parking industry is rotten;

    - landowner complaints continue and we involve our MPs;

    - if we or relatives get a court claim we defend it.  Defending is easier than appealing and with 99% success. No risk. And a mediation stage where you can take a phone call with an independent mediator and make an offer, if the Defendant is wobbling. Easy.
