The only store that sent spam after I gave an email for the receipt is Curry's. I tried to inform them I wanted it removed due to GDPR as I didn't give permission for marketing and they didn't understand so I gave up. But every other store I've got an email receipt from, the only email from them has been the receipt, no further communication at all.born_again said:
Simple to stop further emails. Just use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email.👍teaselMay said:They've been muttering this for at least 18 months, given the amount of junk they send you if you give them your email address they'll have to either up their act or lose a lot of customers if they impose this
Personally other than receipts, never get other mail from them, unlike many other retailers.0 -
It's a legal requirement that Curry's have a process in place to remove you from their mailing lists. But it doesn't necessarily have to involve speaking to staff members in a store. Usually there's a link on the emails.jon81uk said:

There was an unsubsribe link on the email. But they didn't understand why I was complaining and what was wrong with signing me up without permission.Ergates said:

Most people do and the number who don't is reducing with time - to the extent that the loss of business from this policy is likely lower than the savings made by not giving out paper receipts.sheramber said:

The lack of a receipt (either paper or digital) cannot impinge your on your consumer rights - a credit/debit card statement can act as proof of purchase - so the only thing you need a receipt for is any returns policy they offer which is over and above your consumer rights. The number of people who *would* shop at Dunelm but refuse to because of this change will be pretty small.0 -
Out of interest, is there a legal obligation on shops to provide a receipt?
I know someone who doesn’t use a computer of any sort, hasn’t got a mobile phone and so I doubt very much if they have an email address. Not sure how they manage, but they do.So if they can’t provide an email for a receipt would the shop have to give them something resembling a receipt in a different way?All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
