Dunelm receipt policy

After paying at Dunelm, I was asked my email so they can send me a receipt. I declined and got a paper receipt. Apparently paper receipts are to be phased out and email receipts only. No returns will be allowed without an emailed receipt. Is this legal? Not everyone uses a computer and some do not want countless emails from every shop they visit. Faulty goods should still be exchanged though surely?

Another option could be to buy online then do click & collect in-store if you don't want home delivery.0 -
They've been muttering this for at least 18 months, given the amount of junk they send you if you give them your email address they'll have to either up their act or lose a lot of customers if they impose this0

For a return because something is faulty, all you need is proof of purchase. That does not have to be a receipt, although having a receipt will make it easier.
Change of mind returns, they can implement whatever policy they like because that’s based on their goodwill and not on any statutory rights. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -

Simply set up a free email account and use it only for receipts. You can even use the +Google trick for one email account so you know which store has used your email.

Take a photograph at the till when purchasing. That should do as proof of purchase if the item is defective. As others have said, returns due to change of mind don't have to be accepted even with proof of purchase.

Personally other than receipts, never get other mail from them, unlike many other retailers.Life in the slow lane1 -
I just have a separate email address set up for these sorts of things so my 'main' email address is not so cluttered.
We humans are so resistant to change, see it all the time in work, its quite funny - people hate X system, X system becomes obsolete so gets replaced, everyone now dislikes new system and says how great X system wasYNWA

I set up a new e mail account, exclusively for receipts.
Works dor me but wouldn't help someone without access to emails0
