Hello Forumites . My flight today to Newark USA from Edinburgh with United Airlines was cancelled  a few hours before it took off because of technical issues. Am booked tomorrow on same flight instead. Can I claim EU compensation  because the flight wasn’t to EU and carrier is American ? If so , how do I do this . Many thanks in advance of all your wise words!

Moved to the flight compensation board.

After Brexit, the UK has its own version of the EU regulations, which are largely identical, so you'd claim under the UK ones, as these cover any airline's flights departing from the UK.

You'd need to check the United website for the details of how to claim.

Edit: it's fairly well hidden but:
In order for us to process your claim expeditiously, please supply your name, contact details (email address and/or mailing address), ticket number, flight number, booking reference and details of the claim you are making. To make a claim for compensation, please contact United Customer Care online at: united.com/feedback

And to answer your question, yes you can claim. Going out of the U.K. it’s any airline that is eligible to any destination, but coming into the U.K. it’s U.K. airlines only.
