Edit: just reading a bit of background on this, it looked like they started issuing evacuation orders while the flight was in the air, but the airport wasn't closed until the Tuesday.

    So true
    Mondays flight left Gatwick 12:20
on way to tampa Tue/wed/thur/ Fri  cancelled
tampa announced shutting of airport on Tuesday whilst flight in the air
It must have been safe for the plane to land, otherwise it would have been diverted.
I don't think you're going to get your money back.

Imagine nobody going to Florida just incase a hurricane appeared!!
    hotels wouldn’t last long
no business from July to November 😳
Erm...no. It's simply a case of peak season and off-peak and, as Florida is a whole state and not just a resort, the economy will continue to function and people will travel throughout the year.

A random website: "October and November can provide some real bargains...However, be warned this is also when hurricanes can strike...".

People can take a chance. Mitigate the risk by buying (more expensive) flexible tickets or travelling at another (more expensive) time of year.

  • No one's been accused of working for BA yet?  Surprising.

they’d fly me to Gaza if they could land

    hurricanes they don’t count
    😂😂😂
We flew home on Tuesday 8thOctober from Melbourne so not too far from Tampa   weather was fine until the Wednesday/Thursday.  Third time we have been during a hurricane. If the flights are operating insurance won’t cover you

hurricanes are such a common occurrence they only cancel flights roughly 24 hours before they expect it to hit land and all local hotels were open for business including special rates on Wednesday/Thursday for locals that were worried about being at home and worried they may lose power again happens each time hurricane expected
