Due to fly to tampa on Monday October 7th 2024
hirricane Helene was due on the Wednesday !! Tampa airport in a zone A evacuation zone mandatory
BA not cancel the flight at ( lady at desk tell me the next four days are cancelled ) I had to cancel my flight got £190 from a £1045 flights fee . They refused to help me “ you can get onboard the govt website doesn’t say it’s not safe “
travel insurance declined claim “ you can’t just cancel your flight due to severe weather “ if I’d a flown there and then come back I’d have got some compo , I wouldn’t have got home for five days at least and where would I have stayed !!
completed form on BA site still no answer , surely morally it was wrong to ask people to board a flight into a known hurricane zone , the mayor and governor said go away don’t come and only wanted a credit note from BA not cash back

awaiting an answer from BA

Have I got a leg to stand on

See what they come back with, but as that flight did operate on that Monday, the onus would be on you to prove that any reason not to travel on it was justifiable - was it a flight-only booking or was it a BA Holidays one by any chance (which would bring the Package Travel Regulations into play)?
  • Flight only
some of our hotels had cancelled
car hire amazingly give all money back
but said I may have not be given a car due to the hurricane

    that would have been fun

I can understand BA not coughing up, but it does seem harsh for your travel insurer to decline a claim on those grounds, how much of the trip would have been in the area directly affected by the hurricane?
  • All the gulf was in the area
    the hurricane before didn’t help

Doesn't travel insurance normally rely on whatever the Government travel advice is?
