I recently opened a Cash ISA (currently funding it up to £10,000) and I am also considering a stock and shares ISA. Half this years allowance would be in the cash ISA and half in the Stocks and Shares ISA. I would then do the same in April 2025.
A relative has opened a interactive investor account and has been investing in an ETF (Vanguard FTSE All-World UCITS ETF GBP). She has suggesed I do the same.
I note that this ETF can also be held in an ISA. Would I be wiser to do  this with an ISA for tax purposes? Or for any other reasons that I haven't considered?

At a later date i will then consider opening an investor Trade account with any spare cash.
Thanks for any replies.

In general it'll make sense to invest within tax wrappers (such as ISA or SIPP) rather than outside these, as long as you have enough annual allowance to support this.

Are you comfortable with the risk of being 100% equities in your S&S ISA?
  • I've read up on the risk of just having equities in S&S ISA. I figured on adding the above ETF to the S&S ISA and then looking into adding other investment types next April. Will I be able to add those to the S&S ISA?
    Thanks for the above reply.

Yes, you would be able to add other investments next year, but it would still be more conventional to decide on your risk tolerance and invest according to that from day one, so if you'd be happier with a mix of equities and bonds then buying into a multi-asset fund now would seem a more obvious direction than an equities fund to start with and then bonds at a later date.
  • Thanks for the information and advice. I'll look further into this.
