VNM's mother's house was overwhelming. I felt ill every time I went there and neither he or his daughter wanted to clear anything belonging to a much loved relative.
I was grateful to my grandmother for gifting so much in her lifetime - ok some of it was antiques and she gifted it, for example, a beautiful 1930s very sort over tea service to the milkman because he had just got married and did not have much. My sister ruefully pointed out the sale of the tea service would kit out an entire kitchen and more but my grandmother told her not to begrudge others! It meant there was little to sort out.
I hope I can get on top of clutter so my nearest and dearest (well those charged with looking after animals) get little to do.

This morning I have the Head Nurse Practitioner (gynae oncology) due to phone me at 9.20. I don't know why. The truck episode and the outstanding solar works, along with other stuff like presenting to bee groups and learning enough to pass my next exam, mean I haven't given it a second thought really.
We shall see why she wants to speak to me.
Blue skies this morning, but I am full of cold, felt shivery last night but a good long sleep has helped. My study buddy is due at 10.00 and I am meant to be joining a webinar at 7pm. Oh, and a gift basket/mini-hamper to make up and some honey to label, and some to jar.
A brief one this morning. Dead zone money-wise, I have made a ragu from stores and added a handful of red split lentils in, for a bit of additional protein. It's in the simmer oven quietly doing its' thing. I might cook the pasta early and pop it in the fridge before mixing them, to change the starch absorption rate of the pasta (a la Tim Spector)
I did go out with Mr Sl and the neighbour whose dog is coming to stay yesterday, and I also drove Mr Sl to our furthest apiary to check on the (happy) bees there.

@Watty1 maybe check out What Not to Eat episode 3 or 4 of the recent series. Refrigerating starchy carbs (rice, pasta, potato, pasta) changes the structure of the carbohydrate so they (don't cause a sugar spike and) are absorbed more slowly, like complex carbs in vegetables

I find Tim Spector very interesting. I am intending to re-read his book & also have the one on fermented foods on order from the library.
Sorry to hear you have gone down with a cold.
Hope your online appt goes well. I am not unacquainted with gynae/oncology investigations myself & tend to feel better when I'm actively 'in the system' rather than waiting around in my default mode, which is overthinking.

We're all here for you @Suffolk_lass whatever the news. Even if it's bad at this stage, an awful lot can be done. Love Humdinger xx

Bless you @Humdinger1 and yes @foxgloves, much better to be in the system. You were right @Watty1 - call was a minute or two early.
She asked me how I was feeling after my surgery last week (I just saw the consultant who was diagnosing and scheduling me for the surgery) - so after a little intervention to correct that premise, we spent about five minutes chatting about new IT systems in the NHS, and whether someone had just checked the wrong box. Then she said, you have my number now, feel free to call me if you need to. It occurred to me I might not now be called for the surgery (or my four monthly scan) but I will leave it four months and put a reminder so I nudge them then, if I need to.
All good!

While the starch absorption thing is an interesting concept, it should be borne in mind that blood sugar spikes after eating (carbs particularly) are the body's completely normal reaction to eating, and aren't anything to be alarmed about UNLESS you have diabetes. Indeed, if your blood sugar didn't spike, that would be a bigger concern!
Glad you had that chat with the Nurse Practitioner - nice to have a direct contact for someone who will be able to answer questions and set your mind at rest about things if needed!

Well, after (I think) most of the last three days in bed, I feel a bit more normal this morning. While I may still have a cold, I am not feeling shivery/sweaty and I am not coughing all the time. It was the right decision not to go to the Chinese New Year celebration on Friday or the outdoor BBQ we were invited to as a surprise party last night. I just needed to be, and I feel I am benefitting from this. Up with the larks this morning, I shall change the bedding this morning when Mr Sl is up and about. I must, must, must get out to my greenhouse and plant some seeds.
Oh, and I am going to pay off my credit card before the statement so that all of the credit limit can be used against the truck, and then that can be paid down again this month, so that the house insurance premium is also paid from that card.
No response from the Solar installation company yet.

Glad you are feeling better today. There are certainly some nasty colds doing the rounds - it's not often I slump around in the day doing nothing, but at least mine only lasted around a week. I feel I'm catching up now & you soon will too. March is a good month for seed-sowing.
