You have a number to call. I think that is very impressive! Spent an hour on the phone last night with a good friend and one of the things we discussed was how she cannot phone anyone to resolve her issues and although she has seen 4 people she is no nearer getting things sorted because they will not give her a number to call back on and when they call her at home her signal is too bad. They cannot agree a time to call so she can go somewhere with a better service. Her resolution was to go to her GP and ask him to sort things out for her.

We did have a good giggle at our shared misfortunes. I do hope the nurse practitioner was helpful.

Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

Love the title of your diary - I think that “avoiding the temptations” should become my new theme.

Starting to feel better and having told my Mum, she has dropped a bomb here. She needs to be investigated for a recurrence of the bowel cancer she had 9 years ago as she has experienced symptoms. She is 96. I don't know what they will recommend if it is confirmed. [Neither she or my silent sister thought they should tell me while I was ill. It's not how my brain works. It does confirm that while it may have been well-intentioned, neither of them understand me at all. Twas ever this way].

Haircuts (postponed last week, as my hair-cutter has some health issues himself and he didn't need what I have just had!). New truck is in for some work that was not undertaken before we collected it on Friday. Solar reinstallation is on Friday except - they contacted us yesterday to say the battery is not going to be installed at the same time! We need to talk more about the battery situation there.

In happier news, revision for Saturday week's exam is going better than I expected and - my tomato seeds are germinating, despite being planted a month later than normal. No sign with the chillies yet though! I even spent an hour weeding yesterday - only 3 trugs full but it cleared half of the bed the potatoes are almost ready to go in. My gardener is almost fully engaged on a monster piece of hedging work at a nearby farm (it's his first love) so MIA for the last two weeks. I might have to prune my own apple trees.

I'm desperately trying not to stockpile. I have shopped twice this month (fresh and dairy) and hope that is the main SM stuff but I fear we will need cat litter as Stealth Cat's outputs have increased significantly with the progressive speeding of her metabolism in old age. I also forgot to pick up OB ginger biscuits, but I have a recipe I can make if needs must (probably healthier but less crunchy!)

Right, time to plough on with a bit more revision…

Glad you are feeling better, @SL, as you sound so busy, but worrying news about your Mum.

2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!
