@Suffolk_lass - What a palaver! 😭 I don't have anything useful to add, just wanted to show my face and some solidarity. I know you'll get things resolved but what a waste of energy (pun absolutely not intended) 🤬3

@Suffolk_lass this is beyond dreadful. This may sound exhausting but as you have the report, please use it with every relevant body. Cold comfort right now, but I predict handsome compensation. Please keep us posted. You are navigating this with grace love Humdinger xx5

My horror was ramping up and up with each line I read of that!
I'm with EH, flag this up to the council seeing as it was their scheme that proposed these cowboys. I keep my fingers crossed that it can be as straight forward and pain free to get resolved as possible- Mortgage: 1st one down, 2nd also busted

Truly horrendous and my blood was running cold reading that … So very glad nothing awful happened …
Will you try again for solar panels again after this or is it game over for you?

Thanks everyone for the expressions of empathy. We spoke to the insurance company and we have to send a recorded delivery letter to the original installers and give them an opportunity to respond (14 days) before the insurers will take any action. She also stressed that letting anyone else mess about with the system would potentially invalidate our insurance.
I think we have to follow the process through before we escalate anything to anybody and it clearly is not going to be quick. Of course, in the meantime, nobody is benefitting from the panels on our roof. We just need to take a breath and follow the process, relying on the cold hard facts and not our emotions.
I'm going to take a look around all my favourite threads and diaries now as thinking about it is making my stomach churn, to be honest.Save £12k in 2026 #2 I have banked £2870.61 so far, against a £10k target The 2026 Save £12k in 2026 thread is here

Get that letter sent off off as soon as you can and then at least you will have started the process.
I hope you can find some pleasantly distracting things to clear your mind, at least partially, this weekend. Maybe a garden centre visit?

Letter posted. Recorded delivery. A considerable brain worm weight off my mind. Mr Sl did the first draft. It was like being back at work, making all the passive bits active and taking possession of my requirements (I am the named customer). Anyway, they have fourteen days. I added I was tracking how much the loss of solar is costing, compared to last year and I was very definite about the fire risks their installers had introduced to our 17th century thatched home.
Today our calendars are empty and the washing is already hung up in the airing cupboard to dry, and laid on the aga, for the underwear. I may yet strip our bed for lovely clean bed linen, just a couple of days earlier than normal. And the last bought (for Christmas) sourdough has been removed from the freezer and is out to use. So no bread to make today. I may yet defrost a freezer this weekend if Mr Sl is up for it. I have two that need doing. The larder also no longer has a pile of stuff on the floor because it won't fit on a shelf, so our January reliance of stores is starting to show. I still think I have enough protein for another two months (minimum)
We plan to go through all our beekeeping kit and make notes so we can develop a February list of jobs to do.- Making frames up (me) and painting new poly kit (with the Banana Dream 3 masonry paint that was too bright for us to put on the house, lol)
- Queen rearing preparations (me)
- cleaning kit (mostly him, but I will do the poly)
- Repairs (him)
Freezer surprise is two sirloin or rib eye steaks we will have this evening with simple, steamed veg. Speaking of which, the weight-loss starts Monday (I took one for the team and eat the last couple of spoonfuls of the Scottish honeycomb ice-cream while waiting for The T's final last night
