...I did think of that (btw you don't need the *, you just have to wait an extra couple of seconds). The problem is that some local phone numbers may start with a 7, and then you are screwed. I have a sipgate number that's 01325 7***** so that is an example.
    Sorry, did I miss something?

I thought that access number was for dialling mobiles which would begin (omiting the inital 0) with 7xxx! Where does local number come into it?

On the Orchid dialler, it routes calls based on their STD prefix.

So you can set 07* numbers to go through 1899, 01/02 through 18866 during the day, through your CPS provider off-peak, etc etc.

It was suggested as a way of simplifying things that instead of dialling 00447... and getting the Orchid to recognise the "00447" as a prefix and sending it through this company, that we instead just leave off the leading zero. So a mobile no starting 07971 would need to be entered as "0044 7971..." using this provider normally, but if we got the Orchid to recognise numbers starting with a 7 and route them through with the prefix "08444620005####0044 <number starting with the 7>" then we'd just need to forget the zero.

Problem with that approach is that if you were then to dial a local number, starting with a seven, the Orchid would be fooled into thinking that for example (01xxx) 712345, dialed as 712345, was in fact a mobile number, and dial 0844 456 0005 <pause> 0044 712345, and the call would fail, and 5p would go down the gurgler.

Now I see where you're coming from.

I think though (can't confirm as can't get cw client to connect to Orchid again!) but it only interprets local as numbers between 5 - 7 digits long. Therefore, as a mobile is 10 digits long (not including the inital 0) then I don't think it would interpret it as a local number.

Like I said, I can't connect to Orchid but I think thats how there local thing works.

If it was possible, Orchid would have to put a routing rule along the lines of any number starting with 7 and being 10+ digits long.

I have had an email from Orchid confirming that AbroadTel can now be used with their dialler after we set it up.

Non CPS Users (or OneTel CPS users)

    Quick Setup Guide

    1. Add as a Carrier "0844 452 0005 - Mobile AbroadTel"
    2. Add as a routing option "00447 - AbroadTel Mobile" and specify that for daytime, evening & weekend to use the "0844 452 0005 - Mobile AbroadTel" carrier you have just added.

    How to use

Just dial (remember in international format and omiting the inital 0 before the mobile number) "0044 7xxxxxxxxx". Eg, to dial 07123 456 789, would be dialled as 0044 7123 456 789.

    CPS Users (eg. TalkTalk/Tele2, etc)

    Quick Setup Guide

    1. Add as a Carrier "0844 452 0005 - Mobile AbroadTel"
    2. Add as a routing option "1280 - 1280 CPS Override" (with the 'S' attribute) and specify that for daytime, evening & weekend to use the "0844 452 0005 - AbroadTel" carrier you have just added.

    How to use

Just dial (remember in international format and omiting the inital 0 before the mobile number) "1280 0044 7xxxxxxxxx". Eg, to dial 07123 456 789, would be dialled as 1280 0044 7123 456 789.

    That's it.

The reason as to why there are two options is that unfortunately some CPS providers like OneTel/TalkTalk/Tele2, etc do not support all 0844 numbers and therefore have to dial 1280 (CPS Override) to have BT carry the calls instead of the CPS provider. The easiest way to check if your CPS provider supports the 0844 number is just to dial it as it is. Eg. 0844 452 0005. If AbroadTel don't answer the phone then your CPS provider doesn't yet support that number and you will have to use 1280 to route the call back to BT.

UPDATE: OneTel CPS users are able to dial AbroadTel's 0844 mobile access number without the need to dial BT's override code of 1280. I'm not sure if other CPS users' like TalkTalk/Tele2, etc can.

Also, due to some local area numbers beginning with "7" it was not possible to have the dialler automatically use AbroadTel when we dialled a number beginning with "7" (eg a mobile (0)7123 456 789) as it was interpreting it as a local number.

    Thanks

Hi, just been having a look at their website and have a question which I can't find an answer for. When using Abroadtel to call a UK mobile that is abroad at the time (on hols for instance) does the mobile owner still have to pay the normal charges that they would have to pay if not going through Abroadtel. Sorry if that is a daft question but can't figure it out

    Thanks

What is the number to dial to override the orchid dialler? It will take me forever to reprogramme the dialler and I can just dial the codes for the amount of calls I will make once I can bypass the dialler.

    TIA,

    Stella

Yes. Only the caller's charges will be affected and the roaming cost will still be incurred by the mobile.

But that person could get a foreign SIM card (unlock the phone) and then you would use the Abroadtel access number for that country's mobiles

    IIRC, it's 121
Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
    They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").
