Seems like a good alternative to the old http://www.07tel.co.uk

I think it is down to the termination charges; 3 works fine off-peak.

Just have to work out the Orchid string now -- the server still seems to be down, grrrr.

That'll be why I haven't received my username and password then!! Thanks.

I'm positive that when you post the string (if you can work out how to do it!) for the dialler - there'll be lots of nice thank yous coming your way!

why don't you post on a different one instead then, as that post is boringly pedantic, and especially the signature

5 pence is a lot cheaper than a few years ago

I think the title of this thread is wrong.

There is no such thing as very cheap landline to mobile call charges in the UK - they're all Ofcom-exempt rip-off rates.

I am new to all this and expect I am using the wrong form to thank you for your helpful advice about contacting my daughter in America. Unfortunately it has all come to nothing as there is no mobile coverage in her part of Pensylvania. Many thanks just the same.

Having actually had access to the Orchid dialler sw now, I realise that this won't be as easy as all that.

One possibility would be to program in a redirect for "00447", redirecting to "08444520005####". This would rely on the user inputting 0044 infront of the number instead of the leading zero. Not hard once you've got it into your head, but not completely intuitive either.

Of course, this system could be made to work with the 0870 and 0845 numbers if they keep on working with this company's other number.

What I need to do now is get the string added to the Orchid software -- I'll drop them an email.

I don't think there is any other way around it, as I don't think there is any way to get the Orchid to remove digits from the dialled number.

How about asking Orchid to include as a carrier "08444520005##0044"? That way, we'd only have to remember to omit the initial "0" of the mobile number and remember to press "*" at the end. I'm sure i've noticed something similar for another carrier they have listed. Explain to them that calls to mobiles (are only 5ppm) and it is likely to become popular once everyone is aware of it.

Update: I've just tried it now without waiting for the automated voice to finish so I think a pause of 2/3 secs should be sufficient.

I should think that the price will go up to 10p not long after you figure it out - just write the access number on a post-it note by the phone

3 second pause works fine; I did this with a p on the mobile

I did think of that (btw you don't need the *, you just have to wait an extra couple of seconds). The problem is that some local phone numbers may start with a 7, and then you are screwed. I have a sipgate number that's 01325 7***** so that is an example.
