Next time I buy a TV I am going to go elsewhere... Argos lets you return stuff and so does Amazon. Not sure about other outlets, but I bet they do.

I'm not so sure about Argos - I think we've had posts on here about them refusing to accept things like phones, laptops etc if the security seal has been broken unless they are faulty.

Yes, I struggled to get Argos to accept an opened but unused kettle back until I kicked up a fuss and got the manager. I guess it could have become 'faulty' if the worst came to the worst.

OP, what you should do is go to Curry's to see the item you want, then go online and see if you can buy it cheaper elsewhere either through a cashback site, or at an alternative supplier who may offer at a lower price or with some other deal e.g. extended warranty. When I replaced my TV about 10 years ago, the place to look was Richer Sounds and John Lewis for the long warranties, Richer Sounds have good stores, and someone like Hughes Direct (online) usually had the best price and a cashback offer. Not sure if it's still the same, but it's a bit of legwork to save you some cash. I ended up buying the TV I wanted, that I'd seen in Currys, for about £200 less with a discount and cashback.

You get to see a demonstration model in Currys.  Online you don't, hence you can change your mind with online purchases.
  • If you buy a TV online you have the right to cancel your contract within 14 days of delivery (possibly up to 1 year and 14 days but not with Currys), the retailer can reduce the refund for “excessive handling” but that is noted in particular as going beyond what is available in a shop and Currys have display models so there is a good argument for a full refund, discussed at length here:

I am over 8 months into a PC repair at CURRYS but bought a TV offered an insurance and refused it then they halved the price so i took it.  Days after delivery i found a part was old and asked for a refund, repair or a replacement.  Within the time allowed but refused and also refused putting it in writing.  I looked into it and CURRYS was bought by DIXONS CARPHONE WAREHOUS 10 years ago.  This was after they admitted training staff to sell insurance to the insured making £444 million.  I found items on the floor advertised as sale prices kept at full price with no refund after sale.IE a webcam at £179 supposed reduced to £66 and as i looked to the web the salesman disappeared.  The insurance scam is still running i returned my PC and was charged £79.50 transport to repair.

My PC developed a blank monitor after a BIOS update with in the three year manufacturer warranty and obviously a manufacturer fault.  This was Solihull and MIKE gave me 50p change from £80 when the actual price was £75.  I reported it but told by someone he would have noticed but i am autistic and used to trusting.  A diagnostic was said but then denied later said done but refused the the result.  I was to agree if replacement was needed but they did it anyway.  Charging me £230 for a new motherboard something those insured should expect but i was not insured on my PC.  I refused they put the old motherboard back but i was desperate so seeing they were capable of anything i accepted.  In calls to repair i learned they replace every time then repairs for future repairs so not new as stated.

I was told their policy was to be paid before returning my PC but i argued and requested my own motherboard be returned with it.  They agreed to return my motherboard and reset my PC that i see it working if i paid which felt extortion or blackmail but seemed safe. I went to pick them up at the store but was simply handed my PC no motherboard and no reset. I refused it and phoned repair, they asked why i wanted my motherboard?  They then said another £75 to send it to the store but i said i refused delivery so they could not, they then offered to send it to my home.  I refused as signing or opening a parcel it could have been anything and only my word if wrong.  They refused to refund as they promised though said i had their word it was a new motherboard fitted. They sent my motherboard to the store by post so i complained.  I wrote the CEO of CARPHONE WAREHOUSE before getting any reply though CURRYS didn't appear on his letterhead.

I was told i misled them as both items were in store and they wanted the receipt for the extra £75 i never paid for my motherboards return. I

Prices can and do change.  To the best of my knowledge there is no requirement on a retailer to mention previous reductions when reducing a price further.  That does not mean you paid the full price.

Perhaps so, but I still feel conned. When I bought it it was discounted by X, plus an extra discount ot Y. It would be foolish of me not to say that I had been swayed by the advertised discount when making my purchase.
Now it is advertised as costing what I paid for it, minus a (further) discount. So, what is the base price?
I think it is particularly difficult with items like TV's. Often even with the same brand and model, there will be numerous variations. Sometimes it is last years model, but you have to delve into the fine detail ( if you can understand the techy bits) to see how it is different. Often heavily discounted ones tend to be models from 3 or 4 years ago.
Plus as you found out discounts come and go quickly, as stock is cleared, targets are met and new stock arrives.

Well, the trouble with that approach is that you seem to want the bricks & mortar store and all the benefits of being able to touch, see, feel, hear the item before purchase, but not willing to pay for the costs of that level of service so then want to go elsewhere and buy simply the lowest price.  The result can only be that the brisk & mortar stores all disappear.

Probably right, but I stopped going to our local Currys, even for click and collect, due to the annoying aggressive selling of warranty products.
A couple of times I even had to say ' if you do not stop, I am going to walk out without actually buying the product at all'
If I buy online I do not have to put up with that hassle.
