Looking at our financial situation, I could atm pay off the entire mortgage and have 6 months of expenses in the bank. It also means I could pay off my mortgage and then go down to 4 days a week permenantly should it be needed!

No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Brilliant - well done on putting yourself in such a good position. I was thinking about the copy of the letter that was sent to the GP you had several years ago. Isn't that a data protection issue? Surely when you changed GPs that info should only go to your current GP?I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

@greenbee - thank-you hun - I do my reviews in bits and pieces which is why sudden revelations like 'I could quit if I needed to' suddenly come to light!
@beanielou - it is quite an eye opener & a testament to living fugally and below one's means!
@KajiKita - thank-you, yes definately hard work but the peace of mind that revelation gave me was worth it!
@Fortune_Smiles - thank you for popping in my luv - I remember how delighted we all were when your jouney brought you to the point where you decided to pay your's off! I'm not ready to do that but again, peace of mind is an amazing thing!
@LadyWithAPlan - thank-you so much! great to 'see' you pop in!
@dawnybabes - indeed it is amazing not only to realize that I could if I wanted to, but that I actually do like working even more when I know 'it would all be fine' if I decided to change paths!
@themadvix - Thanks Vix - options are priceless, there is nothing worse than feeling tied down to working in less than ideal circumstances!
@Cherryfudge - thank you for popping by with such an astute thought! You are of course spot on and I will add that to my points for the letter of complaint that will be drafted up this weekend!
So much as my realization means that I now have peace of mind, the reality is that it would mean wiping out ALL our savings & investments in order to do so & then living even more frugally than we do now! So as I am rather fond of the odd treat, including the odd lotion & potion, the job still holds a place in my everyday.
What the realization actually does is bolster my self-confidence for a long delayed meeting with HR & my current manager regarding my experience at the workplace since she came on board, especially in relation to disability in the workplace. I shan't say much more on this, but I'm sure it's clear what my stance is given some of my more vocal rants on the subject!!! - I will just say that self-advocating is the last thing I expected to have to do given our values & ethics code of conduct!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! What an incredible sense of freedom, just knowing that if push came to shove, you could! Especially if you have an upcoming meeting where you remind your grandmother that she should be capable of sucking eggs.

@rtandon27 do you belong to a union? I'm sure you'll negotiate wonderfully but it sounds as if toxic, probably illegal, practices may well be afoot. A union could speak up for the less well-informed or confident people. What a huge achievement love Humdinger xx3
