I cannot bear looking for home insurance, so I'd probably take the £80 saving as a win, but if it's that much cheaper, it does make you wonder. There are so many variables with home insurance and I always find that as soon as you click through from the comparison site, you find that it doesn't actually cover what's needed and that that'll cost another XX amount, so it's a complete waste of my time. But that's just me!If Ed's a naughty boy, I reckon I'm in line for excommunication! 😆Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

@Cherryfudge - ah yes the elusive 19p for your hula hoop ring! 😉
@edinburgher - yes, you do have a point about the bigger discount elsewhere - I'll be having a little trawl, but I'm with you on not doing the 30-step check - life is too short
@KajiKita - interesting that what they offered you was the best deal, I do wonder if they have now switched to a model that rewards loyalty???
@themadvix - I think I'm in the excommunication category too! - I'm happy to keep the pennies in my pocket, but don't grab at everyone that comes my way. I most certainly use hourly rate as my motivating factor, which is why surveys have gone to pot and I do the one stop shop rather than the bitty piecemeal shopping.
I do have a fancy policy that also covers goods out of the house during travel, both domestic and international (not travel insurance - that is separate) I spend so much time working remotely & while on the train that I worry about tech breaking or leaving something behind when I get off the train! The discount they are offering is closer to what I think I should be paying recognizing that last year I thought the increase was massive! I'll be shoveling the extra that was budgeted straight into the mortgage overpayment pot, so any saving is appreciated!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! You would actually think that customer loyalty would make life cheaper for a business. After all you have a customer who you know hasn't tried to rip you off/defraud you, that you know their details are correct etc. It does seem a little counter productive to spend a lot of money on advertising to give the new customer a large discount & hope an existing one will pay more just to stay. Maybe the scales are beginning to tip the other way.3

@badmemory & @Greying_Pilgrim - interesting asides on insurance! thank-you for popping those here 😀
I have a laugh for everyone - I just applied for a position at the conglomerate parent company of 'the happiest place on earth' - what a joke after all that effort to find out that the salary is a good chunk less than mine which is in the 50th percentile if the Mercer benchmarks are to be believed! - it was a good exercise though, AI application processes infuriate me so I got through this one in about half the time with help from MrGPT for some of the stupider answers to the stupider questions!
ETA - the happiest place on earth is about as far from the environment I currently work in as one could get, so it was a hilarious whim when I saw the job poster! - This poster arrived to me shortly after I had another interaction with someone in the office who thinks they have the right to uni-laterally decide upon my accessibility accommodations - I put paid to that with a well-crafted terse written response cc'ing their manager, my manager and the head of HR. Who knows what the fall-out will be - they have skills at kissing !!!!!!, I do not!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Do you have access to the mercer benchmarks? I don't think we use them - we just pay as little as possible!1
-
@greenbee - as part of our annual review process, my employer pays for a mercer benchmark review to which (if we ask nicely, with the correct amount of groveling lol) we have access to.
I know I have been of late moaning a lot about my manager, but a manager is not an employer, and my employer is fair and equitable in many ways.
On another note entirely - it's payday!!! - I don't have time to even check the bank as having had back to back meetings, I'm now rushing to go and meet a friends new-ish baba boy!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! You are absolutely right about managers - I often complain about mine but they are merely operating as best they can in a system that they don't quite seem to understand! Despite ******* local interpretations of corporate policies, the policies aren't bad2
-
@edinburgher - I've been known to challenge local interpretations of policy on a regular basis, not just for myself but for collegues in general! I don't give management the benifit of the doubt given how closely I work with them! I'm not sure what the redacted swear word was but I think it equates to insert profanity of choice here!
So my baby cuddling session never happened as it took me 6.5 hours to get from work to home after
a) there was a gas leak which cut off step free access
b) railway staff with !!!!!! all disability training had to be pulled up sharpish when they couldn't get it together (one even swore at me - let's say I got the transport police involved)
c) it took almost 3 hours for them to get me from charingX to WatE then back again, then they got me a special taxi I couldn't get into properly, the driver proceed to then got lost & didn't speak english proficiently & asked me where he was going - yes I was beyond furious at this point! - should have taken a black cab and paid for it out of pocket
d) passenger services then met me and put me on my train (i get help to travel when chaos reigns) - they didn't come back for me when trains changed after an hour delay - due to someone deciding it was time to jump - and i had to figure it out on my own
e) then had to battle for a priority seat (and yes I am a card carrying member of the club) - but really some men are total pr**ks
f) the train I was on took the long way home on a different track, taking over two hours from departure to arrival
g) by the time I got back to my small town all the takeaways were closed (how f***ing quaint) so I scoffed a sandwich down in the car - thank you OH for staying calm outside while quietly worried on the inside
On the flip side, I did miss baby-boy deciding it was a good evening to throw up everywhere so the fates were merciful while weaving a bit of chaos into the tapestry.
Have finally recovered from the traumatic journey (and a gentle day of wfh) and am making my way through an old-fashioned list on a sticky note, when I finish getting it together, I'll post a list for the weekend! Day off on Monday so a long weekend can be had! Phew, I really need it!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! That sounds horrendous RT - I’d say beyond belief, but I’ve heard similar poor treatment on many such occasions from a friend who has a wheelchair. Will you complain or is it not worth the effort?Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days
