Good morning all my lovely folks - it has been a rough old week - thank you all for your good thoughts & wishes - they mean more than I can express.
So a bit of an update…
OH's surgery on the 17th seemed to go well until two days later when he was rushed to the ER with life threatening Sepsis. ER docs & nurses were amazing and stabilized him, though it was touch and go. Overnight he was transferred to ICU where the nurses were also amazing - by Sunday he was in an acute care ward and I have to say it was a case of questioning what would have happened if I'd not been advocating and doing much of what nursing staff should have been doing. Seriously not impressed by the weekend staff! By Sunday evening I'd written an e-mail to private hospital, the coresponding NHS team and our insurance as I was fed up of no one taking the lead on co-ordination of his care.
No surpirse when first thing Monday morning we had 5 seperate visits from specialist doctors & senior nurses and his case was very quickly progressed. Night staff all round were uunimpressive and I had a few sleepless nights as a result. By Tuesday mid-day his surgical procedure had been reversed & he was alert and responsive. Due to the bed manager trying to move him out of his isolation room without medical reason, by Wednesday, I'd coordinated with our local hospice for his continued care once he was on the mend rather than just stable. His specialist who we see privately helped enable this and the paperwork was expiditedNow I do have to praise our local hospice, surprisingly NHS and not private - the team are utterly amazing, treating the patient & family with incredible dignity and care - they are the epitome of nursing as it should be and I have been able to 'stand-down' and get some rest, both at the hospice and at home. My lovely GP has also signed me off for 2 weeks so that I can focus on getting back on a more even keel, having suffered shock and stress due to the entire experience.
The journey to be with OH is now 5 minutes instead of 40 and 24/7 access means I can schedule visits to suit. Very thankful as this also allows me to spend up to 8 hours a day visiting with OH and ensuring he's not too much of a pain for the nurses 😉🤣 He'll be cared for a minimum of 2 weeks as there are 3x daily IV meds and several times a day ops to be monitored. It's been a bit of a mare but I'm very glad that administrative paperwork and beurocracy are things I understand! Now today is more admin for me - have to enact our poa's properly and contact lawyers to let them know I'll be conducting ongoing matters on this behalf - but first a walk to the recycling banks, then to waitflower for a few bits and a free coffee! Will go spend the evening with OH and we will have dinner together. For the first time ever in 20 years, I'm very pleased that he is able to natter on and be annoying!

Wow @rtandon27 , what a horrendous time for both of you. As you say, your advocacy and ability to kick a** will have been huge in getting your DH the best care now, but what a time for you. Sending hugs and more hugs.
Free coffee and a bit of a walk in the fresh air sounds good.
Thanks for updating us x
