Best rewards for lump sum spend

Options
I will be spending around £8k next month, saved up and budgeted for and I want to see which card will give me the best rewards. My friend has referred me for BA Amex which gives 31,000 avios but there is a £300 fee. Any other alternatives? Are avios worth it?

The best is the one you can get, not necessarily the best on the market. Whether you could get an 8k limit is up to the lender, though if you got say a £4500 limit you may be able to spend say 4k, wait until it's recorded on the card, pay it off and pay the other £4k - you'd have to check the terms

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • Well, I need to pay £8k in one lump sum bill and won't have a problem getting a limit of that amount. I can pay cash but I thought I would take the opportunity to use a credit card for the reward points.

You need to decide what kind of reward is most beneficial for you.  Cashback or proprietary points are the main offerings, but a 0% purchase card would let you earn interest for the duration.  See the link kindly posted by @eskbanker and this https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/best-0-credit-cards/
