Hello all - happy new year to you!

First moneysaving of the year - cancelled our Sky account after 13 years saving us £1002 before we even start  (or £1242 based on the price it would've gone up to after this contract went back to its normal price - although they had offered to reduce it to £36.50 for the basic entertainment package with us getting rid of all our extras).  If we're desperate, or missing sport, we'll get NowTV (which they own anyway) which we can do monthly.

Nothing potted since I finished work on 20th, and there's about 50p in my purse, but I'm back to work on Monday so that'll soon change.

All that being said, I've got LOADS on this year - so far, January weekend away with my 2 ex-work-wives in a cottage in Derbyshire; February weekend away with DH at his family's cousins' annual get-together; April weekend away with another group of girlfriends to Edinburgh to celebrate 2 60th birthdays; May overnight trip to see the Manic Street Preachers again with my sister in Manchester; June trip to London to see Rhys Darby on his standup tour, it may be a day trip or it may turn into an overnight stay depending on return transport and whether he does stage door, followed by seeing him again at home in Sheffield the following week (2 different ticket prices thanks to one being via Ticketmaster - boo hiss - but I still had to pay fees to actually buy the Sheffield tickets, at the venue - what's that about??; in August my ex-work-wife Emma is 50, and then in September she and I are going to see Level 42 (in my case, again) in Sheffield.  Apart from the weekend in February, I haven't even squeezed DH in for any time away or anything else yet!!

Following on from the thing MSE published the other day (ins/outs) I'm getting cashback on most things I've booked (trains, hotels) and as I so far haven't got anything going on in March (subject to change LOL) I'm hoping to have a spend-free month then!

Flippin' heck - went on an online help site the other day, agreed to pay £1 to get my question answered.  Straight away got a text saying that someone was trying to take £39 from my account.  Saw nothing that said I would be charged £39.  Ignored it because the text said if it was me, to call and confirm so they could release it.  Anyway on the third text I contacted my bank, explained what had happened and they sorted it.  But they cancelled my card as a precaution, and due to the holiday I'm still waiting.  The following day, I was woken up by what turned out to be an automated fraud check from the bank.  Immediately suspicious and definitely not awake enough to deal, I hung up.  When I got up, I checked the number and it was a genuine bank number and confirmed as a fraud check.  It rang again but I still ignored it.  On the third attempt I answered it, listened to the automated message and then got put through to a really nice guy who, bless him, must have a really difficult job now because having narrowly avoided being stung last year, the minute he asked me for my sort code/account number (not helped by DH in the background going "don't tell them anything" even though he had no idea what was actually being said), I said no.  I had already confirmed my bank account number to get through the automated security so in my brain, they already knew who I was.  He was very understanding and confirmed that as he hadn't asked me for any personal details it was OK but he would understand if I wanted to hang up and call back myself.  He said I could well end up speaking to him again but if it reassured me that was fine.  So I did, and I got a different person - who promptly asked me my sort code/account number!  I explained my reticence but logically there was no other way to progress.  Anyway it turned out that the guy I initially spoke to when I got the texts, had not logged the transaction as 'fraudulent' so the system would keep telling them/me that it wasn't actioned.  I said to this person that I sympathised with how difficult their job must now be because everyone is suspicious.  Yes partly my fault for taking something in good faith that turned out not to be, or for missing something about paying more money.  Hey ho, every day's a school day.

In other news, I have signed up for a 1p Challenge, 52-Week Challenge and Naughty Challenge on Plum.  It does involve a small monthly fee for the upgrade to a different level of account, but I'm fine with that.  I've seen the 1p Challenge mentioned on MSE but thought I'd look to see if Plum did one as the MSE recommended one was with a different bank.  The Naughty Challenge, which I hadn't seen before, is basically a payment to my savings every time I spend somewhere that I "shouldn't" so in my case it's Amazon   Let's see how it all goes!!

I also forgot to mention in my Sky post above, that I've also closed my 2 mail order catalogue accounts.  Well, I've closed my Marisota/JDWilliams one as I could do it easily online, but my Very one I've just stopped the DD but I have to phone to cancel and can't be bothered so I've just paid it off, cancelled the DD, removed the bookmark and unsubscribed from emails.

Oh, blimey, @MrsShazbat. What a drama. I don’t think I’d give my sort code and account number to anyone who had phoned me! Well done for doing the right thing.

A “sweep” of my accounts - rounding to the nearest £5 - means that some more has been potted. Also a couple of no spend days means there’s likely to be more where that came from!

    @MrsShazbat 😬

I’m potting away on a regular basis, sticking to just my physical pot which I’ve changed this year. Not using the glass sweet jar I’ve had for the previous 17 challenges, this year it’s a coffee can sealed with gorilla glue, I can’t see inside it so have no idea how much is in there 😊

A VERY SAFE, HEALTHY AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL POTTERS!!!

To all those of you who are poorly or low in any way, take great care and get well soon. best wishesfrom us all here on SPC <3

Hello James, T and I had a lovely Christmas thank you, trouble was I then had an exacerbation (flare up) with my COPD and T caught a virus after Christmas, lucky his was no worse with all that's going around. Don't worry, neither of us ever drink alcohol, with the epilepsy it makes me go all of a wobble and T's 3 brothers put him right off as they drank a fair bit and T didn't like their after effects.

I take it you had a quiet Christmas, not the same at all after the loss of a loved one, bless her indeed.
I hope you managed all your spring cleans and then relaxed.
Don't forget your Declaration on SPC 17 if possible! xxx

Hi Vicky, your poor hubby, I'm so sorry he suffered what seems to have been COVID. I'm pleased you spent time with your parents. My poor T caught a virus and had an awful throat and cough, still has an awful cough.
I hope your hubby is better now, anyone would be lucky not to catch some sort of lurgy working in an office.

Brilliant with the money saved with your wages plus YouGov. I finished mine and glad I did as they were always far too lengthy. It's done by other people now so maybe that's the reason you're happier with it, I hope so. Take care.

Hello again cdm (new No is O12), it's lovely to see you and you're very welcome back. The Nos no longer go so high as yours was as more members have disappeared due to Covid and the Cost Of living Crisis. As you see your new No is on the Membership List as well as above by your name, please change your nos on your siggy, thank you.

Thanks for cdm's welcome back Ant, and well done with your £4 coins!

Brilliant with the £5 Vinted sale madlyn as well as your shrapnell!!
Very well done with your pottings of your latest post.!!

Well done with your potted shrapnell Nintud. Great work with the challenges you're doing and so pleased you're declaring it along with your SPC in October!! Yes, absolutely way too indulgent to spend it on Botox! 😤😠🥴

Ooh congratulations JynErso, that's  wonderful news !!! 😯 Of course you said yes to his proposal, why ever not.
Whatever you manage to reduce your weight to, just remember that your partner proposed to you at the weight you are now! Lose whatever you're able to as it'll certainly give you a boost and be a lot better for your health, but given you've had cancer which relates to your stomach...don't expect miracles! You've got until June or July so fingers 🤞 you can lose enough to be happy with! All the very best. 🥰

Excellent news with your cashback Vicky!!

A very Happy New Year LMD!!
Fantastic news with another £90 dice rolls!!
    Plus your latest £53...WOW!!

A very Happy New Year MrsShazbat!!
Brilliant savings of £1002. A good idea with NowTV if you need it.
Crikey you have got a lot on this year.... enjoy it all!!

    Excellent work Vicky !!

Good for you mummytummy! Same as me with my Terramundi.

Well done Siju! I'd never given a thought to you being Welsh, I certainly wasn't goinbg to have a shot at pronouncing what you typed to JynErso! 🫢
I wish T and I could have kept away from illnesses, but no, T's had a horrible virus with a shocking cough 😷 especially at night. He put a mask on and went to our local Pharmacist who quickly diagnosed him as having a virus.
I've had an exacerbation with my COPD, I spent over a week barking especially during the night. I so very much regret ever smoking, a ridiculous habit, but my mum smoked indoors, and I think I got hooked then!!

    Well done with the £5!!

I've transferred £20 from our bank account to the SPC account, not a lot so far but it all counts.

Enjoy a great Wednesday folks and TAKE VERY GREAT CARE!!!!

    Sue

A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL!!!

Declaration Day for SPC 0025 is October 23rd.............BEFORE --- BUT NO LATER, please!

Sorry you've both been so poorly Sue-UU there are so many viruses around at the moment, both our granddaughters had chest infections over Christmas and their Mum was coughing and sneezing constantly. Luckily we managed to avoid catching anything and I'm really hoping it will stay that way! Hopefully you are over the worst now and on the road to recovery xxx
