Economy 7 meter timings off

Until a meter reader / inspector comes in - now once in a blue moon - rather than the old 2 years standard admittedly unless on PSR - and looks at the meters themselves. Also in many cases - for high or low off peak users - the difference in the register readings would be a pretty good clue for suppliers. There was a post the other day where someone suddenly had 9000 units added / subtracted - the sort of thing that might happen if got into a register peak / off peak order swap.If it was costing you money - you would want it fixed - it is equally fair that if was costing the company money - they should be made aware and given the oppertunity to fix.0

I am hoping edf will be able to notice the difference in useage today, I used the tumble dryer at 1 this afternoon and the meter said it was 3:54am.
I imagine they could pick up that it is unusual usage for us.0 -
EDF won't necessarily notice any difference at all. It's NOT a Smart Pre-pay meter, so they won't pick up on this "unusual" usage.
I'm not very familiar with all the ins and outs of prepayment meters, so I don't know what in formation is transmitted back to the supplier via the key next time you top up.
Meter readings may be, but whether date and time of day usage is, I don't know.
As you've already said, wait and see what happens when the clocks change.
If the timings remain unchanged then you need to contact EDF again and make it clear you are getting your off-peak rate during the day because of the fault. (I wouldn't elaborate of how it may have happened, just report it.) Just saying your storage heater(s) are coming on in the day is not going to "ring any bells", the agent may think you are just using more peak time electricity and probably won't care, don't bother mentioning the storage heaters.
As a separate point, your "electrician" is clearly a sloppy worker IMHO, as those meter tails going up to the consumer unit should have been tidily moved together, conscientious ones may even use cable ties to keep them tidy.
Out of curiosity, what is that current monitoring device on one lot of the meter tails for? (Assuming that's what it is!).2 -
Update this morning -
Checked the time on the meter this morning at similar time as the other morning. At 6:51am meter says 22:47 so the clock has gone 1hr forward and not back 🤔0 -

MWT said:Is this an old meter with a clock fitted (usually close to the meter) ?If so it is possible that your electrician pulled the main fuse to allow him to safely work on the new consumer unit tails to the meter if there was no isolation switch fitted. With the older clocks, cutting the power will often result in the clock stopping until the power is resumed leaving it on the wrong time...
These old 24 hr timer clocks do have an internal spring which will power the device in the event of power cuts but eventually this spring runs out of power after a few years .1
