I’ve had a reply from them asking for all of the search references, names used and, somewhat bizarrely, the address and date of birth used - surely if either of those had been wrong, the searches wouldn’t have found their way onto my credit file in the first place? Anyway, replied with the information requested and received another automated reply saying that they will respond within a month. Presumably the company or companies that asked for the searches will be similar, so this could remain outstanding for the rest of the year.
CRAs and equivalents use fuzzy logic when doing matching. It doesn't need to be a 100% match on everything else a bankruptee called Bob Smith could just sidestep it by calling themselves Bobby Smith.

LexisNexis came back today, with what is obviously a cut and paste email (posted upthread.) A little irksome when you have already made it clear that you know they didn’t decide to carry out the searches and were only contacting them to find out who did.

Tesco Underwriting were given as the instigator of the searches, and they gave a transaction ID. As LexisNexis didn’t or couldn’t tell me which insurance, I’ve had to contact Tesco and hope someone can point me in the right direction. Have gone through a robot and am waiting for a human.

Tesco Underwriting exclusively underwrite Tesco Bank insurance policies.

Are you still maintaining you have no insurance of any sort, nor have you sought a quote for any?

Have you received any quotes from Tesco Bank?

    The only insurance type products
in my name are the sort you wouldn’t go to a comparison site for - AppleCare+ on an iPad and accidental damage/extended warranty on a couple of appliances that belong to me. I paid for these upfront for a specified period and none of them were bought from Tesco.

I had thought it would be easier if they told me which type of insurance someone had either got or been looking to get with Tesco Bank, as I assumed they would have different teams for each product they offer and that it would speed up the process had I been able to use direct contact details for the type concerned. Perhaps this is not how it works, I wouldn’t know; I’ve had no dealings with Tesco Bank other than Current Accounts and Savings DDs when they offered them, plus ClubardPay+.

The policyholder was asked by the current home insurers (not Tesco Bank) whether anyone living there had had any CCJs etc, and for the names of other residents. So I would also understand if a search were requested by that company, to verify that the information given to them was correct.

I'd approach their DPO and do a DSAR for information that Tesco Underwriting hold

I would guess, and it's only that, that your relationship with Tesco/Tesco Bank is resulting in them routinely generating insurance quotes for you.

I also wouldn't be at all concerned if this turns out to be the case.

Yes, I’d like to do one of these. If WillPS’s guess is correct, then it would show nothing untoward and put my mind at rest.

I’ve tried google for instructions and find some references to SAR and some to DSAR. Is there a difference?

Is there an MSE guide anywhere about how to do one? So far, I’ve just turned up old threads.

    Thanks again for your help.

They are the same thing, one is a Data Subject Access Request the other is Subject Access Request... some used to write dSAR request too but its fallen out of favour.

Look at the privacy policy of the company in question, it will state how to do one. https://www.tescobank.com/help/privacy-policy-insurance/ if you scroll down there is a form to use and where to send it

Looks like this form: https://forrit-one-tb-prod-cdn-p1-prod.azureedge.net/media-76a057a8-43e8-4899-a94d-aaa40249b955/12952d40-d66d-4478-a767-c10838a8a118/Data-Subject-Access-Request-Application-Form.pdf There is a section on it where I could state any information held against me by Tesco Underwriting and explain the issue.

It seems like a bad system to have the solution to possible identity theft being to put your particulars, in full, in the post. But I don’t think I’m missing anything https://www.tescobank.com/help/privacy-policy-insurance/
