Do they seriously have no contact methods but phoning them? I have phone anxiety at the best of times, never mind when the only explanation I can see is that my identity must have been compromised in some way. And judging by the OPs experience, they won’t even care. I am terrified.
If you go to the section I said and click the bottom option which is something like I'd like to start a consumer request it will kick you over to Resolver and a dedicated webform to submit a request
This one? I haven’t seen any mention of Resolver anywhere, though it’s possible I’m missing something having had very little sleep from worrying about this. https://reedelsevierinc3.my.site.com/webform/s/?first_int_12hrs=&last_int_30mins=&hit_count=1

They want a bank statement or similar to submit a request. They weren’t bothered with checking everything was legitimate when they searched me!
When I clicked on the link it I thought I saw it go to resolver and then bounce on to the form, maybe I was wrong but yes that is the form.

In data protection language they are a Data Processor and almost certainly they do not share any PII back to the Data Owner. If you take the ID check, the Data Owner (eg Direct Line) passes them your data and asks them to validate you are a real person, they pass back either a percentage or Match, Partial Match or No Match etc. DL then makes their decision if they want to offer terms and/or allow you to pay in instalments.

The contract between the Data Owner and the Data Processor will include assurances from the Owner to the Processor that they have the permission to share the data from the Data Subject. When you fill in a form to get a quote for insurance you're asked "your name" "your address" etc and there is a statement of truth that all details provided are accurate which is how the Data Owner gets comfortable its the real person enough to at least ask Lexus to validate it.

This form most often will be used for a Data Subject Access Requisition which will result in Lexus sharing with the person all the data they hold on them. As they will be sharing PII in this scenario the obligations of checking they are sharing it with the right person now falls on them and hence the higher level of checking in form of a request for a piece of ID to ensure you aren't an estranged ex trying to locate their former spouse etc.

I have loads of them, up to 5 a month - they missed Dec 23 though. Only seems to start from July 23. The annoying thing is that they are being done when no insurance is due renewal.  I could see the logic of some previous insurer or comparison site - although I have not used one for years - doing checks when an insurance is due but why every month.

Yes, some insurers do live policy checks for whatever reason, not unlike how companies you have accounts with will periodically check your record. Probably to check that you still live/are registered at an address relevant to the policy.

To repeat - there is nothing to be concerned about here.

Surely I do have something to worry about, given that I don’t have a policy and haven’t searched for one either.

I am wondering what to put for Request Details on the form above and have so far written this:

I have 4 searches against me by LexisNexis (IIL) - Insurance Services dated 6th October 2024, marked as being for Affordability, Quotation Search, Identity Check and General Insurance. I have never owned a vehicle or requested any other quotations and as such am concerned that they could only have resulted from my details having been given to an insurance company or comparison site by somebody else. The CRA can only tell me that LexisNexis searched me and not why this was done.

I’m trying to reduce the risk of them coming back with a useless response. I’ve known about this for not much more than 12 hours and already feel that I can’t take any more, as whatever nefarious activity has been going on might end up on databases and cause me problems when I haven’t done anything wrong.

Unfortunately there is little else the forum can do to assist you if you are choosing to disbelieve the advice that these soft searches / ID checks are nothing to worry about. They aren't something you should lose sleep over, I have tonnes of generic ones and never pay any attention to any of them, the only one you want to look out for is hard searches/applications for credit.

If you don't wish to follow this advice, pay CIFAS for a protective marker, it's about £30 for a couple of years and will make your life much harder if you want credit but at least will stop anyone taking out credit easily in your name.

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I have added since added a line about one search including my middle name and the other three not.

I was going to submit it under ‘Credit Reference Agency - Request for information as to why LexisNexis Risk Solution Group searched a consumer's Credit File’ - will I need a SAR as well?

Wondering if they will end up throwing my ID out for only showing my first and middle initial - I literally have nothing that shows my name in full that is on their list.

I would skip the bit about a vehicle, it's irrelevant. You simply need to state you dont hold any insurance past or present and have never asked for a quotation and therefore are concerned by these appearing on your credit record and are concerned about it potentially being a sign of (attempted) identity theft.

The CRA has effectively told you why it was done with the "quotation search" etc but you can leave that bit there if you want. I would personally add the explicit question of which organisation(s) requested that they conducted the search and any further information they can provide on the background to the request.

Buying home insurance and then cancelling is going to be a rather odd choice of mechanism to launder money. Most application fraud is misrepresentation (ie failing to tell their insurer about a big claim they had) or fake brokers (someone down the pub getting you cheaper insurance). Technically payment fraud is there too but given you have to give the true registration plate or address for to actually have cover not many then use a stollen credit card to pay for it - tends to be more "no intent to pay" so buy insurance and bounce the payment but the cert gets their car out the pound

You have no insurances policies of any sort and have not searched for any either?

I have a full licence and am past the young driver excess stage as far as I know, so if someone was trying to get a policy so as to not flag up on an ANPR I suppose I might be useful.

I noticed there is a 500 character limit so have shortened to this, but not sure if it is still over. I have Word on my iPad but cannot find the character count.

I have 4 searches against me by LexisNexis (IIL) - Insurance Services dated 6 Oct 24, marked as being for Affordability, Quotation Search, Identity Check and General Insurance: 1 including my middle name, the others without. I have never held any insurance nor requested quotes and as such am concerned that I may have been targeted by identity thieves. Please advise which organisation(s) requested that you conduct these searches and provide me with any other information you have that may assist in the resolution of this issue.

You can drop the bit about your middle name, thats irrelevant information.

The form asks for name middle and surname so I was wondering if they would therefore only find the one search done against my full name rather than all of them?
