Think I’ve been a victim of identity theft

I have four searches on my Credit Karma report dated 6th October from Lexis Nexis insurance. Obviously not me, as I don’t have a car and nor have I sought quotes for any other type of insurance on or around this date.
I am now terrified that they will have entered completely incorrect details about me that might see me getting my financial accounts closed for inconsistencies, fraud markers against my name etc. The searches were for Affordability, General Insurance, Quotation Search and Identity Check. On three they omitted my middle name but had used my correct middle name on the other one.
I think I’d rather they’d taken a card out in my name than started messing around with insurance - at least then all I’d have to do would be to not answer the door, convince them I don’t owe the money etc. I do have a driving licence so am now worrying what would happen if I needed to get insurance - any specifics put on these quotes are surely even more likely to be wrong than anything else, as a simple data leak from somewhere I do have an account wouldn’t give them this info. My driving licence is in my possession and I am careful to shred everything with my details on, so it was the last thing I was expecting and now I don’t think I’ll sleep.
Affordability suggests to me they might have been granted insurance by instalments - being MSE I would NEVER apply for this - nothing showing yet but if they have and don’t pay it, it’s not only wrongful missed payments I’ll have against my name but an insurance cancellation on my record. How do I get all traces of this stuff removed?!
Should I be applying for protective registration at this point - though I’m sure it’ll cause me significant loss of interest via making applying for Regular Savers etc so difficult.
HELP - completely out of my depth on this subject
Thank you
EDIT: Looking at the web address left on the searches, it leads me here: https://risk.lexisnexis.com/
Not even UK based it seems - what on earth do I do??

have you applied for benefits, any credit, insurance? have you completed a questionnaire or survey etc stating what month your insurance of any type is due for renewal?0 -
None of those, the last thing I applied for was a Regular Saver on 26/09.
I have a Credit Card and accepted a limit increase that was offered to me on 30/09, but I’ve had limit increases before from the same card and never had this happen.
I don’t have any months to give anyone as the only insurance type products in my name are AppleCare+ and an OLED TV covered with D&G (bought from John Lewis in July and paid in full for 5 years cover) and an Argos extended warranty on a dehumidifier - again, paid in full.
The only thing I can think is that I’ve been getting missed calls every few days from a particular number. The first was on 4/10 and upon finding the missed call, I entered the number into the Who Called Me site. It came up with a consensus that the number was genuinely D&G and comments from some users saying that they had been calling them up trying sell insurance for additional goods. The affordability one would make no sense in this case - neither John Lewis nor D&G would have the necessary information as I paid for the TV in full by Credit Card also.If I could find UK contact details for this company would they tell me who had told them to search me, otherwise I don’t know how I’m supposed to get to the bottom of it?1 -
I see soft searches from them at various times of the year. They do them for a multitude of companies including the comparison sites.
So you will see them from times of the year when you have done quotes previously and the months before any renewals are due to be calculated.2 -

Aggregators, eg confused.com, if you open an account with them will remember when your renewal date is and shortly before it will refresh quotes based on prior years details which can result in such searches. So the question isn't "have you been doing quotes recently" but have you ever done quotes for Home, Motor or any other class of insurance to incept late October/early November? If you have then its likely those just being refreshed0 -

A second thread about the identical question today.
It's highly unlikely someone has committed identity theft to buy insurance with you as the beneficiary.0 -
That sounds like the same thing, but with mine only starting this month.I went onto the Monitor section of my report and was alerted that a mail order account I had (Studio) was marked as settled on 21st September and updated with the CRA on 1st October. I did not ask for this account to be closed, nor had I been warned that it would be for non-use. They still exist so I am wondering if an unexpected closure would be a sign that something untoward is going on?0
