Do all of these air conditioning units have exhaust pipes? Noticed that some say they come with a pipe to stick out of a window, others don't (for example, the argos ones doesn't mention it).0

There nothing short of useless in this heat
A £5 desk fan does a better job
Actually, i was thinking about buying an air cooler- are they really no good?
Argos have a simple one for £29
Also, does anyone know whether you can buy something for a car? mine obviously does not have air conditioning. I can't really justify buying a new car.0 -
please a word of warning, if you buy an air conditioner please maintain it correctly, ir empty and change water tanks as they can become prone to growing Legionella's disease if not cleaned/ maintained correcly. I.e the water should not remain stagnent for any length of time, can be a problem with the vulnerable ie children, people with weakened immune systems ie the elderly and those with malignancies...ok proffesional head off.....0

yes they do, they just choose to be erm.. selective in the details they give so as not to put people off as it can be like a giant tumble dryer hose that you have to wrestle out a window.
Saw the Focus DIY ones someone mentioned earlier in stock today (Bromsgrove) £145 I think not on their website though.
Also some split units on a pallet but no time to investigate

picked up a unit from homebase yesterday. 9000BTU, £149. it had £30 discount on it. everyone was going mad for them.
good unit, all digital temp gauge etc. works well0 -
I've just bought a 9000 BTU aircon unit from Homebase for £135.
Normally it's £150, but today (Friday 15th July & tomorrow) is 10% off day.
I got mine from the Hemel Hempstead/Apsley branch of Homebase and they had about 15 units available.
Shame it hasn't got a remote control (Rule #5 of "being a man" - things must have lots of buttons and remote control), but for £135 who cares?! :-)
regards

i would of waited for the 10%, but the store had 100 delivered in the morning and by the time i got to the checkout with mine, they had all been sold ! no doubt they will have more in v.soon0

Further to my message this morning, I've since set up the Homebase 9k BTU unit and given it a go.
It's effective, but it would certainly be too noisy to sleep in the same room while it's operating. The packaging doesn't give a decibel rating for the unit, but I guess they're all similarly noisy. It's not a problem as I intend to use it for a couple of hours before bedtime just to take the excess heat out of the air.
