OP, it's worth asking the question with the council. They may be automatically generated tickets and it might just take a human to review and they may let you off. They might not, but if you don't ask, you don't get. I managed to get off a couple of borderline tickets in the past by speaking to someone and just being nice. Occasionally it can work.

In relation to general driving, if a restriction isn't adequately signed, then there's grounds for appeal. If it is adequately signed but you don't pay enough attention to the signage, then you get what you deserve. Bus lanes usually have cameras because there's a problem with other vehicles using them when they shouldn't.
  • I don't think the OP is going to be back.

The question of signage is why I asked the location.
The question of how close in time it was is why I asked the time on the ticket.
They don't seem to want to give those details, probably because it really should have been very obvious.
  • It’s getting to be horrible driving now. Cameras everywhere, bus lanes, different speed limits on the same road with average speed cameras and now school restricted zones which I’ve never heard of.
    It’s getting too stressful!
It's almost as if local authorities would rather you took public transport in cities instead of driving, hence prioritising others over cars.

    Who knew?
But the bus companies didn't seem to want to encourage people to use buses. 15 years ago, there was a bus every 10 minutes into town and back again. Then it went to every 12 minutes, then every 15 minutes, then every 20 minutes. Now it's every 30 minutes

Lucky you. I would love two have an every 30 minutes bus service!
    Try 6/day between limited times.
Move to a suburban area where thousands of people live and you can have one

Would you class 5 miles outside Stoke on Trent and a Stoke on Trent postal address to be "suburban" enough?
I suppose the lack of local public transport is a small price to pay for living in an area that still resembles the country I was born and grew up in.
