PCN for entering a school restricted zone

I entered one of these new restricted school zones by a few metres but immediately stopped when I realised the time of day. I then did a u turn and left the restricted zone which the council CCTV footage should clearly show.
You guessed it, I received a PCN from the council which I thought rather harsh.
My question is, should I appeal it or just suck it up as strictly speaking I did enter the zone.

Many thanks for your thoughts...

  • You entered the zone.
You've received a penalty for entering the zone.

Now you're wondering if you should appeal the penalty you've received for doing what you did...

On what grounds do you think your appeal would succeed?

The grounds for appeal seem to be that the OP did not immediately realise that the time zone had started , possibly because their car clock was a few minutes slow. When they did realise, perhaps on hearing a time announcement on the radio, they retreated immediately.

OP, what was the time logged on the PCN?

    isn't that all irrelevant

Its a black and white situation. OP went in the zone
  • I was a few minutes early.
Sounds like the consensus is that I pay the pcn as I cannot claim that I didn't enter the zone despite it only being for a few metres.

Appears a lot of council workers are on this site....

You are probably bang to rights but you could try posting here:  Civil penalty charge notices (Councils, TFL and so on) (ftla.uk)

If you do, read this first and follow the instructions... READ THIS FIRST - **BEFORE POSTING YOUR CASE!**, This section is for council, TFL, Dart/Mersey/Tyne etc. cases (ftla.uk)

Let's see the signage on Streetview

What time is on the PCN?

I was going to say this. You have a case to appeal
  • It’s getting to be horrible driving now. Cameras everywhere, bus lanes, different speed limits on the same road with average speed cameras and now school restricted zones which I’ve never heard of.
    It’s getting too stressful!

It's getting ridiculous. There's anew school street near me that you can't access between eg 8.35 and 9.05am and 2.55 and 3.30pm during term time.

Unless it's obviously 6pm or summer holidays, you need to know the time before indicatIng in, read the wordy sign to make sure it's not between those times and somehow find the school term dates.

It's almost as if local authorities would rather you took public transport in cities instead of driving, hence prioritising others over cars.
