@Rosa_Damascena I don't know about others, but I feel so much better for having the sun on my back for a couple of weeks that the financial situation would need to be pretty bad for me not to find a way to go away each year.
I totally agree. I am very fortunate that my garden is an absolute sun trap and I can walk down to the beach whenever I fancy, so I never feel that I am missing out on summer.

Unfortunately a garden can only be a sun trap if we have sun.  Last year was the worst I have ever known.  We didn't have more than about 4 weeks of decent weather all year.  This year has been an improvement but still not great.  The last extended spell of good weather I can recall was in 2020 - Covid year.  Thank God for sunshine then or we would all have gone insane.
The additional problem now is that it seems to be necessary to book so early to get the sort of place we want.  I can remember the days when you could go into a travel agent in April/May and still get a great holiday choice for September of the same year.
