Pipishell toilet seat £33.35Looks virtually identical to the one I posted a link to a couple of comments up. This one is from Amazon is nearly twice the priceActually, same model number.... It pays to shop around. Amazon is not always the best or cheapest source.

I still can’t see it! Could you just point to it so I won’t double post an item in the future, thank youI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. I still can’t see it! Could you just point to it so I won’t double post an item in the future, thank you. Both listings said the model number is BP265NB when I first looks. The Amazon one now says PIBTC01-E (you have to scroll down to Technical Specifications). But even if I'm wrong, my last comment still stands. It pays to shop around. Another virtually identical listing - https://www.amazon.co.uk/CUQOO-Oval-Shaped-Close-Toilet/dp/B0BS45QN1T - A little cheaper than the one from CPS (I hate Amazon and they way they manipulate the listing order).

I've had 3 solid wood ones - grandfathers (1954) mahogony one (lovely to sit on) - 2 in the current property 20yrs old not sure what they are, maybe pine but are fully varnished with a good hard varnish.I've stripped and refinished 2 of these over the years, the chrome hinges are from a local diy shop. Very easy to change if they become unsightly. I've had to do this with the cheaper seats but 20yrs is pretty good.I did look for a new one and the ones that are termed 'solid wood' are actually strips of wood laminated together which is not going to last long. Very hard to see but you can if you know what you're looking for. What you want is carved from solid piece of wood. Be careful of the terminology and look carefully at what you are being offered. It didn't make me popular with the sales guys and gals

I've decided to go for this one: https://victoriaplum.com/product/the-bath-co-traditional-solid-oak-soft-close-top-fixing-wooden-toilet-seat
It's solid oak with zinc hinges. I'm hoping that the seat itself will hold out and I will replace the hinges if they go bad.
Thanks everyone for all your help.
Happy toileting!0 -
IME soft close toilets lose their soft close ability after a few years. That is what usually prompts replacement and effectively makes it a consumable item!

I like that Dina, the pale colour is what I've been looking for.But while the wood may be solid Oak it is strips glued rather than carved from a solid piece - bet you can't get those any more. Well in the incredibily posh shops maybe.May just treat myself to one of those to replace the old one I have

I didn't notice that it is made from strips before, but I suppose it does look that way if you look closely at the photo. Someone tried to ask in the questions but there was a slightly misleading answer:
Q: Are these made from solid, single pieces of oak? Or, are they composites and / or with an oak veneer?
Hi these toilet seats are manufactured from solid oak wood, thanks.
Could mean the strips are made from solid oak! I'll let you know how we're getting on after 6 months!0 -
I'm back quicker than planned because the seat turned up with a crack in it straight away. They gave me a refund without sending it back so I need to think what to do with it.
It split along one of the joins so you were right to mention that twopenny. I'm going to see if there are any whole piece seats available within my budget.0 -
My Great Aunt stuck her's together with Araldite and it lasted as long as she didIf you have a use for it (picture frame for the loo?) - you can fill the crack then strip the seat and revarnish. By filling it first when you strip it the varnish will slightly colour the filler like the other wood and so make it near invisible.Well it used to work on old wooden furniture when I did a restoration course. Priceless for coving up all sorts.Oh and revarnish with gloss type, I used matt for some reason and it's meah not as comfortableJust did a search for you - sheesh they don't half twist words in these adverts. I couldn't find a solid, one piece of wood but that maybe because of the words I used. Do you have a posh showroom anywhere near? Or maybe you could email some which is slightly less embarrassing when you might not purchase. You can tell the laminated bits because the grain doesn't follow across.Or you could try this
