Best toilet seat!

I would love to hear your recommendations for good quality toilet seats! I bought one a year ago that has been terrible. The "wood" has corrupted and the fittings have gone rusty. Can anyone recommend a trusted brand? TIA

It drives me mad that you can't buy decent toilets seats. I've fitted so many, only to have them fail in various ways. My few successes have been with the Croydex brand, especially any seat with a solid bar between the two bolt positions such as the Rutland here: RUTLAND FFIX TSEAT FSCP (croydex.co.uk)
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

You're right! I really tried to buy a decent one so I was very disappointed with mine. Your one does look promising and I'd be happy to pay that price for a good one. Thank you for the tip.

Just noticed that the terrible toilet seat I was describing before was actually Croydex brand: https://www.victorianplumbing.co.uk/croydex-sit-tight-douglas-antique-pine-toilet-seat-with-chrome-hinges-wl530650h

Reassuringly, it has been discontinued there. It had "chrome plated hinges" and made of solid pine. Perhaps these were the problems? The Rutland one recommended above is solid oak, and with "Durable nylon and chrome plated ABS anti rust hinges". So the hinges might still go rusty like my previous ones.

    Any more suggestions?

Do you want it to be wood? In certain period property they are fitting but personally think they look very dated in anywhere else.

Last toilet seats we bought were "long D" shape so limited options. Went for a well reviewed but not a known brand off of Amazon at £55 each and certainly 5 years later when we moved out they were still all good.

Soft close lid, quick release fixings, and the hinge mounts very easy to adjust. Probably won't suit many close coupled pans. But I'm happy with it, and it suits the style I'm aiming for.
If you are wanting solid wood (cheap seats are often MDF with a vinyl or thin veneer), might be worth taking the old seat with you to a plumber's merchant and see what they can offer. I've found City Plumbing to be quite good for my needs, and their prices are generally a lot less than the likes of B&Q or Victoria Plumbing.

I am looking for a solid wood seat. The seat that went wrong was pine, so perhaps I need to go for a different wood?

I think the hinges are the main thing I'm concerned about, as mine eroded. Would Stainless Steel be less likely to erode or rust?

Pine is a cheap softwood and not great in wet environments. Oak as listed above is much better as a hardwood and its resistance to water. Something ideal would be like Iroko that has high resilience to wet environments but haven't seen a toilet seat made out of it.

Make sure you are reading what its constructed out of not what "finish" it has, there are lots of pine and MDF seats out there finished to look like another material.

Chromium doesn't rust, iron does rust, stainless steel is resistant to rust but can rust over time, the higher the chromium content the more resistant it is. "Chrome" finishes are a variable thing, if its on a base of metal it should be a thin layer of chromium which as noted above doesn't rust, the problem happens when that layer chips or wears away then the underlying metal corrodes and that then lifts the rest of the plating. For things like plastic it's likely not to have any actual chrome in it at all.

Thanks that's very informative. Any pointers on how to get better Chrome plated hinges? Any particular wording I could look out for?

Is this good: "Chrome plated to BS EN248:2002 Sanitary tapware"?
