BOXT - any good ?

if it's getting cold from the top (and apologies if you have already answered this) have you bled it? Getting cold top down is often an indication of air in the system (cold from the bottom is sludge). If the radiator is full of air, you'll need to bleed until you get water, and then top up the water pressure - and check regularly until all the air is out of the system. If you've had work done on the system then you may have to keep bleeding rads for a few weeks (particularly if your pipework has lots of kinks and corners for the air to get caught in).1

I really don't like the fact that you have to pay BOXT up front - before any work is done ...Any comments ?

Pay by credit card, then you can claim against the credit card company if something goes wrong. It is what I did when I had my boiler installed, but haven't had any problems to date. Also paid the card off in full the following month, so no interest charges. Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -

As with all protection, better to be in the position of having it and not needing it than needing it and not having itSome people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!2 -
Does anybody know when the flushing of the system is carried out ?Before or After the new boiler and rads are fitted ?I assume/hope AFTER - because the hallway rad is not working correctly and is going to be replaced anyway but the pipework to this rad will need to be flushed as well - and with the rad not allowing free flow of water - it's not going to be flushed.....

System is usually flushed before the boiler is commissioned. You don't flush through the boiler, the magnacleanse or powerflush unit is attached to the flow and return pipework. No sense flushing crud back into a new boiler. The manufacturers information for your new radiators will state that they should be flushed prior to being used so fit the new rads then flush the whole central heating systemSome people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!0

Have you tried switching off all radiators except the one causing the problem ( with the boiler on of course). If it stays cold there is a probably a blockage. If it heats up then, it is probably a system balancing issue.0
