    You trip sounds good.

And well done to your son on finding a job.
  • I love reading about the places you are travelling to. I am a little like you always like to have a holiday planned . I was in Berlin last year at this time and I loved the markets especially the one near the zoo.
Great to hear about your son.
Life is an adventure, never stop exploring.

Booked our Le Shuttle tickets today for our trip to Romania. Got some extra discount codes so got it down to a price I couldn't let go 😃

I’ve just cancelled a trip to Bucharest. I have to be realistic. Each weekend away cost £500-600 and I need to be putting that money towards India, New Zealand and Ecuador long trips booked between August 2025 and February 2027.

i have 3 weekend trips booked, so letting the 4th go is sensible.

    i hate sensible!

Sensible is boring but also practical, quicker you’re debt free more holidays you can cram in

3 weekends away and 3 long breaks is still a lot

You need to be ‘sensible’ the quicker you can pay the high interest debts the better; which will lead to more available funds

Have you looked at your spends for November and done your budget for December? You need to stay focused

I’ve accepted a contract to mark a GCSE paper in June, so that will bring in about £800 for spending in India (internal flights, trains, food, excursions and souvenirs). Just the hotels to finish paying for and the flights to get me there to book.  I’ll probably book flights in February as December and January have big bills coming in (Christmas presents, granddaughter and sons birthday, maintenance fee for the flat, water bill 🤦‍♀️).  When I list that lot, I get a deep sense of dread for the coming two months.

Ive put in my monthly delivery shop for Dec-Jan, to be delivered on the 13th. It’s coming out as £232 for 3 adults for 4 weeks, and more adult portions for 2 weeks. 28 main meals, lunches and breakfasts planned for. £18 left over for top up milk, bread and fruit. No-longer-NEET son will have to take over paying for his treats, phone and Microsoft bill when he gets paid next week.

im not currently charging NLN and phantom lodger housekeeping. I’ve offered them a deal. If they do an online course per week (self paid) then I will feed them. First course to be manual handling as they are working in a warehouse.  Petrol will have to be paid for at £10 each per week as I am getting up at 6.30 to drive them to work and arranging my working day to pick them up at 4.30.

i refuse to be their alarm clock. They get one knock up and a ten minute leaving reminder. I have enough trouble goading 14 year old out to school.

Berlin calculations in. Total cost including flights, car parking, petrol, hotel, internal transportation, entry fee to gallery, walking tours, food and souvenirs came to £485.  I’m happy with that. I planned £50 per day (not inc flights, hotel and parking) whilst in Berlin, but spent only £40 per day, probably because I arrived Friday evening and left early Monday morning so spent less on those days days.

Flights and hotel were paid for months before I started my debt free journey.

What a difference a day makes!

son is NEET again. The agency called to say there is no work for him and friend tomorrow. He’s gutted.

I have to dash abroad mid-week as a video call to my Dad revealed he is battling a gum abscess that seems to be affecting more than his gum. I’m worried about his breathing and have told him to see his doctor early tomorrow. He was put on strong antibiotics on Friday, but the first dose made him violently sick and he hasn’t taken any more of the course. I suspect he will be admitted for IV antibiotics. He’s reluctant to go to the doctor incase he is admitted, so I will have to call and nag him tomorrow. For now he is using brine mouth washes and using the oxygen tank he plugs into at night.  His breathing was so shallow on our video call, he’s at risk of hypoxia and cognitive confusion.

It’s at times like this when I wish he wasn’t over a four hour flight away.
