This set up is very new. The previous system was dreadful. Patients booked in at one place, queued at another window to collect their own records, queued again to see a doctor, queued elsewhere to collect a prescription…. It took a full day from arrival to leaving with medication. When that was the only option other than private, my parents paid for private care, and paid for every pair of gloves worn to treat them 😱liselle said:Why oh why doesn't the NHS research models like that one?
To get our NHS to function faster would take a big injection of money, it’s been underfunded for years.
The country I am in has put a lot of money into the new system, but… there is no interest on bank accounts, and charges to keep money in the bank. Money held in the bank makes money for the government. No National insurance, but high taxation. Food prices are eye watering. Better healthcare has to be paid for, and here you pay for it in your shopping basket and by using a bank.
it makes sense in a country with a lot of ex-pats living on pensions and not earning a salary to pay tax on. Plus, the rich who save their cash (but don’t invest it), don’t earn interest, but the government plays with their money (legally and securely).
I weep at my Dad’s savings depreciating, but I’m grateful for the quick healthcare.MBNA 237.47/13997.47

Ignore the above! I’ve done some research. Employers, employees, and pensioners pay a health tax of 2-3%
my Dad gets…. 1.75% interest on his savings, which is the highest rate available at his bank (base rate is just under 4% in this country).MBNA 237.47/13997.47

The problem in this country with paying for health appointments will be the same as we already have with prescriptions. If you aren't entitled to free ones then some end up choosing which one or ones they fill. Then they get sicker & land up costing even more. I needed an op last year & knowing how much backlog there is I made a decision. I don't agree with jumping the queue just because you can, but I decided on a date that if I was still waiting then I would pay to do just that. I am in the fortunate position of being able to do that & avoid long term damage not everyone can. The longer someone is "sick" for whatever reason the worse the long term outcome is likely to be.Sorry I will dismount my hobbyhorse now.0

Thank you for the info Nintud and let’s hope the NHS are looking at various options.
Hope your Dad manages to put some weight on now that he’s on the right medication.0 -

Back home to the usual teenage mess. I’ll tackle it tomorrow.
Fifty miles left in my petrol tank, £15 in my bank accounts, and two £2 coins in my pocket.
Five days until pay day. I should just about scrape through. It’s been another tight month.
Four Vinted sales (£14.50) to pack and post and the princely sum of £6.40 due in expenses.I will need to put £175 into my EF on payday, £100 to replace the money net I used for the emergency dash to my Dad and £75 for December. I’m increasing the monthly EF savings from £50 to £75 in the hope that there will always be enough in there to at least pay for a one way emergency dash to Dad.MBNA 237.47/13997.47

I’ve sold my most expensive item on Vinted, but the buyer has selected the wrong delivery method, collection instead of home delivery.
im going to pack the item while she tries to change it. She’s got an hour until I’m going out to post. If not sorted by then I will send it by the current delivery method and she’ll have to work out a way to collect the parcel. I need the £70 off my Very debt!MBNA 237.47/13997.47

I think you may have to cancel the sale and they buy it again? Not sure it can be done another way but someone may know better than me 🤔Nintud said:I’ve sold my most expensive item on Vinted, but the buyer has selected the wrong delivery method, collection instead of home delivery.

The buyer cancelled and I reuploaded. She then bought it for the original price before I could send the lower offer we had agreed! Once accepted by the buyer, that’s £75 to Very. With the post issues at the moment, I doubt I’ll see that before Christmas, but it will mean I end the year with a much lower Very debt, and after January payday, I can start chipping away at the Nationwide credit card.MFWannabe said:
