My x3 30p direct debits are now set up on my Chase account but showing as pending. Will this be acceptable to qualify for the switcher offer or do I need to wait until they show as something different eg paid /active/ some other category. What doesn't help is it doesn't seem to show the date they will be paid on.

Hi all, my friend is new to bank switches and went ahead and tried to get this offer without fully knowing what to do, despite my offer to help when they started. I think the situation is salvageable but some help would be appreciated.

During the application for the Club Lloyds account, at some point and for some reason they have instead given a Basic Account (my friend is not bankrupt or in financial difficulty, so can only assume it was a credit history issue). I’ve suggested to my friend that they contact customer support and find out why they were given a basic account and if this can be upgraded to a Club Lloyds account. Has anyone had anything similar happen, upgrading fom another account to the Club Lloyds and still getting the switch bonus?

Also, the CASS was not used on application, but with the Basic account at the moment this might be a good thing. My understanding is that as long as a switch is made, it doesn’t have to be requested during the application procedure, is this correct?

Finally, my friend did attempt to start a switch but was told to enter the last 5 digits of the card from the account being switched from. I know that that account was a secondary dummy Chase account that does not have its own card as it is linked to the main account. This is why they didn’t proceed with the switch request. When requesting a switch, is there an option that says “this account does not have a card”? My friend can’t remember. I have seen this option with other banks, but I did my Lloyds switch a year ago and their system may have changed, plus I can’t remember which bank has what!

Any answers would be much appreciated! Thanks everyone!

The biggest problem will be with the basic bank account. If it can't be upgraded to a CL account (no guarantee it will be given it's likely a credit file issue that they were only offered a basic account to begin with) then there's no point proceeding with a switch, since a basic account isn't eligible for the offer.

But to answer the rest of your questions, assuming a CL account, then yes you can request a switch at any point after account opening. And as for the debit card, you can just provide the last 5 numbers from the Chase debit card, regardless if it's linked to account actually being switched or not. I've had mixed success with not providing the card during other switches, but not had any issues when I have actually provided it.

Yeah that's my thinking, hopefully speaking to customer support will be helpful in finding out if it can up upgraded to CL or what the reasons are for not being able to. Like you say, if it stays as a Basic account then there's no point continuing with switches. If that the case I would suggest trying another bank, though there may be no guarantee of a different outcome if it's based on the credit file. Could always improve that and come back another time, we see these offers come ans go, and a switch bonus won't have been given on this occasion so would still be available in the near future.

Thanks for the clarification on when a switch can be made though, and for the Chase card issue.
  • Hi, just after some advice.  I have a chase account that I use, but have just set up a second dummy account on there.  I've also set up 3 direct debits (£1 each to Shelter, Amnesty International and Unicef).

Just wondering how long it takes for these direct debits to show up on the chase app?  Do they appear under 'payments' and then 'scheduled payments' and 'direct debits'?

Nothing there at the min but not sure if its because ive done them within the last hour or so.  None are scheduled to be taken prior to the cut off date for the switch - will that matter?

Should I wait until the DD's are showing in the account before applying for the switch?

And finally, will it only close my dummy account, and not the main chase account i use?

The DDs need to be showing on your online banking for then to be moved as a part of the switch. This isn't instant and usually takes a few days (worst case up to 10 days). They should appear in the direct debit section of your Chase account that you mention. There's still a few weeks on the Lloyds offer deadline so I think you should be okay, but you can always start the switch now, but pick a switch date closer to the offer end to give yourself a bit of time.

As for the switch itself, it will only close the specific current account that you nominate. If you nominate your dummy Chase account, then that is the only account that will be closed.

  • Does anyone know if a PayPal Direct Debit counts as one of the 3 needed to get the £200?

This is the recurring d/d instruction that paypal use to be able to debit amounts from your bank a/c.

    Thanks.

A direct debit is a direct debit... so yes, PayPal will count. Just make sure you've linked your bank account to PayPal as you describe, rather than linking your debit card.

    Hi,

I'm very interested in this switch offer but I already have a Lloyds savings account on the app from when I was with them previously (2019).

Will Lloyds use this account for my switch or do I need to sign up for a new one?

    Thanks.

The offer requires you to switch a non-Lloyds current account into a new or existing Club Lloyds current account - savings accounts are irrelevant here. You will need to open an appropriate current account if you don't already have one. The full offer terms are linked at the start of this thread.
Not quite true. It has to be a NEW Club Lloyds account not an existing one. Below copied and pasted from the Lloyds site....

    • Open a new Club Lloyds, Club Lloyds Silver, or Club Lloyds Platinum account

Oh no!!! Really? When? How? I've no idea. I need to keep records I think.

"Mr *********, your switch is on track however as you've already received money for switching to us since April 2020 you're not eligible for our £200 offer."
