  • Wasn't it Nationwide who took the mick in their adverts a while back about companies only offering good deals to brand new customers only?

... no? The last provider I remember a doing that was TSB, who on more than one occasion promised their headline Classic Plus interest rate was not going to be taken away after a year ('unlike others') - but then removed the interest rate after not much more than a year.

The Nationwide adverts in the current campaign have been about branches and interest rate transparency. FlexDirect has had an introductory interest rate for many years.
  • They're proud to be the same now then  :D

2006, and about mortgages... and at least 5 years before FlexDirect even launched! Cut 'em a little slack...
  • It was tongue in cheek. The internet isn't the best forum for expressing this I accept.

I have no beef with Nationwide, I use them as my main bank account and am more than happy with their service. Been a customer for over 20 years.

    Fair enough, apologies for misunderstanding!

FWIW I am kind of wondering why they've bothered with this 1% cashback. It feels a bit meagre. I'd be interested to learn how effective the restriction on cash-like transactions is tho.

Hopefully some brave footsoldiers can give it a try and report what they find.
