Hi All, I am actually surprised that within the Moneysavingexpert's selling guide there's no recommendations on the best way to find a cost effective well reviewed coveyancer.

Therefore looking for recommendations of how to go about this rather than just randomly searching. Found a few websites that seem to do some searches etc but be great to get specifics from people who have good experiences etc. Much appreciated! My Property is in East London (E13) and I am just selling a 1 bedroom flat so hoping it will be a straight forward process (since I am a first time seller). Also wondering whether I should go back to the Conveyancer that I bought the property with 11 years ago (though the specific person I was working with has left).

I've generally used Premier Property Lawyers for buying/selling whenever I've moved house.  I've always found them to be efficient and cost effective.
The first time I bought a property I used a local law firm. My conveyancing case was given to a trainee and everything happened very slowly.  For this reason I would now choose a dedicated conveyancing company over a more general law firm.

Do not touch that firm with a barge pole. Awful factory style conveyancing firm.
Terrible company. Hated by good conveyancers

There are more bad reports of conveyancers on the forum than there are local solicitors. I would just do the usual practice of getting three quotes from local fims

And ask around for personal recommendations from others who have bought or sold locally...

Gosh already very different opinions - interesting! I looked up the conveyancer I used when I bought my flat and it was Birchall Blackburn Solicitors which I found from getting quotes through Reallymoving.com - they were pretty good I felt so I might go back to them for a quote.

So far the cheapest quote I have had is for Home Legal Direct but googling them they seem to have terrible reviews and they are a Conveyancing Broker - not an actual Conveyancer! Next is The Law Partnership Solicitors who do seem to have decent reviews. So at the moment they are top of my list.

Time costs money. Don't expect a personal efficient service by paying little.
  • I would definitely avoid the "conveyancing factory" type firms as they can be a pain on all levels.

As said - recommendations from local friends and family to see which firms they used when moving - working with a local "high street" firm where you should have continuity speaking with the actual person dealing the file rather than a faceless member of "the team" is good.

  • There is a mention here under "Choose your conveyancing firm"

    https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/mortgages/buying-a-home-timeline/

It mentions getting some quotes via Reallymoving.com

I did this and then you have to decide whether to go for the cheapest (which most people probably do) or paying more for what could be better service.

  • By "cost effective" do you mean cheap?

Thanks - that's a helpful link - Yes I have used Reallymoving.com so primarily looking at the quotes I have gotten from them (and actually used a solicitor quote from Reallymoving.com when I bought my place 11 years ago). Funnily though this time around only 4 quotes whereas 11 years ago I was pretty sure it was more. Well the cheapest from those is not the cheapest I have found but won't be going with the cheapest since it has a mixed bag of reviews whereas the cheapest on Reallymoving.com has pretty reasonable reviews and the other quotes don't have much better except for maybe the most expensive of the quotes.
