The guy who did gutter cleaning came again today and climbed to the roof to show the hole photo he showed. He did video call to me and showed. It’s in fact behind the tiles. He removed tiles and showed the hole. There was a piece of felt placed (not fixed) on top of the hole then tiles fixed that is why I can’t see it from inside. He says he can patch only that location with a new piece of felt and battens and quotes £500 for that. For entries roof though says £8000.
we are thinking to wait and see when it rains to know if it leaks and it needs urgent replacement. The felt we got is actually brittle. If I give a bit of force I can tear it like paper. Is it in urgent need of replacement if the felt is on that state? Kindly share your suggestion on this please
Please stop talking to that guy, he is winding you up!  Out of interest how much does he charge to "clean" gutters?

I can't work out why they won't stop

Sounds like the gutter cleaner who knocked my nans door having been round the neighbours and charged her £800 to do the rear with " lots of repairs" and quoted another £300 for the front of a standard end terrace.

Was livid when I found out but it was far too late at point. He too offered to "fix" her roof for a much larger sum when there is nothing wrong with it.

When I pointed out the price our roofer charges and what it should actually have cost her she was devastated.
  • It's very suspicious, yes, but we don't know.
However, regardless, the OP should use a known pro in the 'hood.

So, he took it upon himself to slide up each tile to inspect the felt and surprise, surprise found a hole? Nonsense. He made the hole. He is a conman. Please do not engage with this man again

Took me 2 minutes to slide up a tile and show a hole in the eaves felt just now, and put it back.

I know someone who can fix that for you.

    Would he clean gutters too?

  • Thanks a lot for lot of replies. I called during the week since I was not home when he told this issue to my wife. I mentioned I can’t see the hole from inside from the loft. He told he will come and show but I mentioned I may be available on Saturday but didn’t confirm time but he turned up at the door and offered to show the hole. Then he climbed and showed over video call to me. Like many people suggested I can’t trust that guy as he looks like desperate for getting us do this. But also gives me idea that this is not a serious issue to repair as emergency unless tiles missing. Thanks a lot everyone 🙏

Do you know anyone with a drone? Get them in to have a look to at that area independent of the gutter cleaner?
