Thanks for suggestions. I have fortnightly rather than weekly deliveries, so 12 months of Asda’s standard deliveries would amount to 91.00 as opposed to 95.88 for Tesco anytime delivery saver. Tesco off peak would be better value at 59.88 pa but you have to weigh in the fact that you are then tied to that. You may not like the service and, in the past, I found Tesco Xmas time delivery provision poor. Swings and roundabouts I guess.
If you have mid-week deliveries, (Tuesday - Thursday) then Ocado is only £39.99 a year / £3.99 a month / £22.49 for 6 months. You still get access to priority Christmas slots too.

Can't see the point of Ocado or Waitrose when you can't even buy frozen minced beef!

I haven't bought frozen mince this century, so that wouldn't be in my criteria.
  • Flexi savers for £1.50 - £2, and you're probably in between 5 - 11 anyway, and you get given a shorter window on the day

Christ knows why people want £7 morning or afternoon slots

Oh. On Monday 4 to 5 pm, the slot I always use, Asda 3.50 Tesco 7.00!
It depends on how you price your time in terms of getting to the supermarket, going round getting all the items you want, paying and then going home.

£7 represents 35/40mins of someone on minimum wage, that doesn't factor in the driving, fuel, vehicle costs etc. if Tesco can charge it, then they will.
Delivery isn't 0 time though - you still have to go through the website selecting what you want. Plus if there's unsuitable substitutions in your delivery then still have to travel to the shop or incur another delivery cost to get what you needed.

I'm going to be honest,  we get substitutions only once in a blue moon on Ocado, and they are actively flagged so I can instantly reject them, when the delivery arrives.

Normally though the subs aren fine - the last one was for cremant, and we just got a different brand. I'm not mega fussy over this type of thing.

Ordering online or via the Ocado app is very quick with favourites,  much quicker than trawling round the shop - which might still not have what you're after when you go, necessitating another trip

When someone prefixes with that statement, it make me think of what someone is being when there's no prefix. :o

It was in response to someone who seems to not have a great experience with supermarket deliveries, and my earlier comment about how a £7 charge might be arrived at.

It's a choice, pick your supermarket, and have delivery or go yourself - either way has costs of time, and money and risks that products you want are not in stock.

Ocado substitute for us very infrequently and usually with a comparable product (we've never got lemon scented washing up liquid instead of lemons for example).

Its because Ocado has a robot do a large part of the picking of the order, if you order lemons the box that should contain lemons comes down, whereas at  Tesco generally a human can walk the whole store, so they are free to select any item at all.

All the more reason to stick with Ocado then.
