I  was thinking of going back to Tesco for home deliveries until I saw the current delivery charges.

I get a delivery for £3 which I regard as good value as it would cost me more in fuel if I went to the shop .

It depends on how you price your time in terms of getting to the supermarket, going round getting all the items you want, paying and then going home.

£7 represents 35/40mins of someone on minimum wage, that doesn't factor in the driving, fuel, vehicle costs etc. if Tesco can charge it, then they will.

    Must depend where you live.

If I look at Tesco for 4-5pm on Monday it's showing at £5

I use flexi saver for an evening when I'm home and it's £1.50 for delivery which is a great price
  • Thanks for suggestions. I have fortnightly rather than weekly deliveries, so 12 months of Asda’s standard deliveries would amount to 91.00 as opposed to 95.88 for Tesco anytime delivery saver. Tesco off peak would be better value at 59.88 pa but you have to weigh in the fact that you are then tied to that. You may not like the service and, in the past, I found Tesco Xmas time delivery provision poor. Swings and roundabouts I guess.

There was recently an item on one of the news programmes about it.  It costs the supermarket way more than they charge you.  The cheaper slots are purely to keep the system running when few people want deliveries.  If one of the big names stopped doing it then they would all follow, it is one of those "who blinks first" situations - if one does something they all have to follow, if one stops they all will.
Bet they wouldn't stop if one of them gave up as Ocado would certainly keep going and the others would not want to lose market share.
  • Can't see the point of Ocado or Waitrose when you can't even buy frozen minced beef!
