I've found it impossible to register for this service as I have an out of date passport and I don't drive. It's digital exclusion based on an assumption that I'm able to travel or drive!Has anyone found this issue registering with the service? Also, they use Transunion UK to do the credit checks prior to the photo ID one. The credit ref check came up with a number of addresses and asked which I was associated with. None of which I lived at so I couldn't get past this.On the 2nd attempt for credit ref check, it showed one of these which was a previous address. Talk about flaky info or coding. Why they couldn't use a previous DWB benefits account or via the Gov Gateway one login beats me. More wasted funds and less joined up strategy.

I don't understand why it needs a separate login anyway.1

Being more precise, it's a based on an assumption that you are able to hold a valid passport - no need to travel.Maddang said:I've found it impossible to register for this service as I have an out of date passport and I don't drive. I have a lot of sympathy as I've been in the same situation with various institutions before, especially when trying to deal with winding up an estate. You'll come across the same issue dealing with banks, trying to buy or sell property, or if you want to apply for a railcard. I ended up going through the rigmarole of applying for a first-time passport (including a phone interview) even though I had no intention of travelling outside the UK, just for ID purposes.
You can try complaining to the organisations or raising the issue with your MP, but I think the pragmatic approach is simply to get your passport renewed and look on it as a small price to pay as a way of proving your identity for the next ten years without having to jump through loads of bureaucratic hoops to prove your id.0 -
I've asked for this to be merged - you posted an identical post on a similar thread and it makes sense to keep all answers in the same place.Maddang said:I've found it impossible to register for this service as I have an out of date passport and I don't drive. Getting an up to date passport will make your digital life a lot easier - it's a point regularly made on this forum, so worth the expenditure if you can afford it.Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!2 -

That happened with me with a list of addresses which were the same on two attempts which didn’t relate to any I have lived at! Plus I don’t have an either passport or photo ID driving licence. I had hoped the details on my paper one would work but no.0

If I'm not planning to travel then an provisional driving license would be cheaper but it's the principle of exclusion which I will raise with my MP.p00hsticks said:

My point is I cannot travel so why should I pay £90 for something I have no need for. Particualrly as a provisional driving licence is half the price. I am already verified with all official organisations prior to retiring and my passport expiring including DWP so it's only the pension department part of DWP that is the issue. They did not require verification when I registered with my NI number to obtain my pension forecasts this last 10 years. It is very poorly thought out digital customer experience and digital exclusion. I will write to my MP.
