Registering on .gov.uk "Manage your State Pension"

I just had a painful process registering with www.gov.uk/manage-state-pension
Fo some reason they don't use your existing gov.uk login but need to create a new one. There's a bunch of ID verification by asking you for details from various sources. I chose driving licence and passport as those seem straightforward - read the detail off the document and punch into the website. However after several attempts it still kept saying it was unable verify my ID.
By trial and error I found the trick. On the web page it asks for passport expiry date giving an example showing two digit year eg "26 MAR 28", which in fact matches the format printed on my passport as well. However to pass verification you need to ignore the example displayed and enter the year as four digits "26 MAR 2028".
Hope this might help someone getting stuck in the same way.

If you are referring to the government website to check if you are on track to receive a full state pension I checked mine recently and used my existing gateway ID and the password I set over a year ago. The previous time I checked was at least a year ago and when I checked recently which was only a few days ago there was no need for me to re-register.Qyburn said:I just had a painful process registering with www.gov.uk/manage-state-pension

I was unsure from your post if you had ever received a gateway ID but I had and had no problems using it again.0 -
I think manage State Pension is a new(?) not well publicised thing DWP have introduced for existing (State) pensioners.SarahB16 said:

I'm referring to the service accessed from "www.gov.uk/manage-state-pension" which redirects to "https://www.manage-state-pension.service.gov.uk/".SarahB16 said:

This needs a completely new login to be created, it does not use the normal "gateway ID" which I've used for many years to access tax services, and which you use to access the State Pension forecast.2 -
Is it meant to be a simpler, dedicated interface for state pensioners?Qyburn said:

Simpler ? You need the same information and ID proofs as you do to get a gateway account. Why it could not be tagged onto the gateway account is anyone's guess. Usual lack of joined up thinking ?Sarahspangles said:

No idea why it had to be separate. You could have a simple interface without everyone having to ha e two different logins. It lets you check and update bank details, email and phone number, and payment frequency. Is it meant to be a simpler, dedicated interface for state pensioners?
The last was what I wanted to check having received to letters, one saying I'll be paid weekly as I had asked, and the second one saying I'll be paid four weekly.0 -
I wonder if this is because the info currently held on govt gateway is essentially HMRC data via Personal Tax Account and the manage SP in payment is DWP. Of course it should all be joined up but unfortunately that probably costs a lot of money.1

When I was offered to register so I could manage my state pension. I was doomed from the start by neither having a passport or driving licence!0

Tagging on to this post as I've found it impossible to register for this service as I have an out of date passport and I don't drive. It's digital exclusion based on an assumption that I'm able to travel or drive!
Has anyone found this issue with the service? Also, they use Transunion UK to do the credit checks prior to the photo ID one. The credit ref check came up with a number of addresses and asked which I was associated with. None of which I lived at so I couldn't get past this. Why don't they use Previous Address term rather than associated which? This nearly threw me.On the 2nd attempt for credit ref check, it showed one of these which was a previous address. Talk about flaky info or coding.
